It is precisely because of its operation that it is the cause of various things, the cause of arising, abiding, and destruction. Therefore, all these various things will arise. Otherwise, if the mindless is the cause, then how do mountains, rivers, earth, and oceans, etc., rely on arising? It is through the blessing of the mindful that these things can be produced again, because its very action proves it. As it is said: The lord is said to be the cause of all other things that have the ability to produce. Mountains and other mindless things cannot strive on their own. If the lord did not transform into various things like a potter, then Mount Sumeru would not be formed, this earth would not exist, and the ocean would not exist. The sun, moon, and stars would not be arranged here, and these sights would not appear before our eyes. Because it exists, some say that the lord is the agent of beings. So it is said. Therefore, if it is said that beings themselves are mindless, and that the cause of various things is the lord, then I must say: decorating with imagined palaces in one's own home, decorating with words, and expressing with elaborate speech, this only pleases those who are dull-witted and attached to their own tenets, and does not please those who are skilled in epistemology. For example, if it has compassion, then why does it cause beings to suffer in hells and other places? If that is the case, then its having compassion must first be understood. If it is said that one enjoys the fruits of one's own unwholesome deeds, then who can intervene to stop and eliminate them? How can it be without compassion? Then, who would not do this deed that causes one to experience unpleasant results? How can one not do it? Because it also has such an effect, and is the cause of all living beings. Furthermore, if one does not act, then will one enjoy the fruits of that action or not? If the former is chosen, then as it is said: one's own happiness and suffering

Some say, "Ignorant beings have no autonomy. Driven by Ishvara, they go to heights or cliffs." How can this be? If one admits that all results are the doing of Ishvara, then this necessarily leads to the fault of uncertainty. If one takes the second view, then, if Ishvara has compassion, if he strives to help beings, why does he not cultivate equanimity towards them? If it is said that because the deeds done would be wasted, it is necessary for beings to experience the results, therefore Ishvara does this for the sake of their enjoyment. Then, if no action is taken, how will Ishvara make them experience the results? Because they have separated from the group. If it is said that even if it is wasted, there is no fault, because the compassionate one can accomplish it through effort, just as because of desire, it enters, so it has not matured. Therefore, Ishvara will instruct them. If it is said that the karma of sentient beings drives them, and Ishvara does not have compassion, so he cannot abide. Alas! If Ishvara himself so clearly leads beings astray, then some beings are correctly guided by karma, but they cannot obtain the essence of freedom. In this way, would not karma be more powerful than Ishvara? If it is said that power can correctly guide, then the great Ishvara cannot abide either, therefore, one should rely entirely on karma. Therefore, this is what does not decay. To those creators, because of powerlessness, one should prostrate to the truth. If Ishvara does not have compassion, then is he not without desire? He is with desire. If one takes the first distinction, then, if because of not having compassion, he does not bring happiness to beings, why does he create suffering? One should say this. Suffering is also inflicted on some beings because of the influence of desire, etc., and Ishvara does not have these. Then, how can he make beings suffer without a cause? If it is said that he makes them suffer for the sake of entertainment, then, for the sake of entertainment, he is without desire.
