If it is said that sound and so on are the objects of grasping at self, if that is the case, then this is not without an object, because we consider the person who has the inner function as the object of grasping at self, as stated by the Logicians and others. But this is also unreasonable, because I am white, thin, emaciated, and walking, etc., this discriminating nature appears as self, but the outsiders do not consider these as self, and it is unreasonable to hold others with other forms of knowledge, because it would be too extreme. In addition, others say that "the one who corresponds to this is this" is its characteristic. Among them, the Logicians consider permanence, omnipresence, each sentient being being different from each other, without mind, having mind because of being connected with mind, the basis of the cause of qualities such as happiness, the doer of virtuous and non-virtuous actions, the enjoyer of its fruit, going to the afterlife, etc., as the characteristics of self. The Vaisheshika school also thinks like the Logicians. Others think of self in this way: the basis of desire, etc., itself without mind, likewise permanent and omnipresent, the doer of virtuous and non-virtuous actions, and the enjoyer of its fruit, having mind because of being connected with mind, but not its own nature. They say this. In addition, the Samkhya school considers the self to be of the nature of separation and following, completely transformed into the image of wisdom, and having the nature of mind. The one with mind is also the nature of wisdom, and that is not entering and leaving, because it is the nature of following both. Just as a coiled snake straightens out, when it is in a straight state, the snake itself also follows both. It is said: Others think that the characteristics of self are the nature of separation and following, the characteristics of mindful wisdom, and consider it to be the nature of having mind. For example, when a snake is coiled, it abandons it and then changes to a straight state.

It is so. The snake itself does not change. Likewise, my own nature is also permanent and conscious, connected with all forms, and also follows all. This is said, and this is its characteristic. Everything else is the same as before. The Vaiśeṣika school believes that, like a king ruling a country, the self is conscious. It follows the nature of substance and category, and is also the nature of change. Likewise, the Vaiśeṣika school says: Like a king ruling a country, the characteristic of consciousness is the cause and substance, as well as the nature of category, possessing the nature of change and following. The Sāṃkhya school, on the other hand, believes that the self is permanent, pervasive, devoid of guṇa (藏文:ཡོན་ཏན།,梵文天城体:गुण,梵文罗马转写:guṇa,汉语字面意思: गुण), and is itself conscious, but not connected with buddhi (藏文:བློ།,梵文天城体:बुद्धि,梵文罗马转写:buddhi,汉语字面意思: बुद्धि), because buddhi (藏文:བློ།,梵文天城体:बुद्धि,梵文罗马转写:buddhi,汉语字面意思: बुद्धि) itself has no awareness. They say that the nature of the self is a conscious nature. It is also not the agent of fruit or kucha (藏文:འགའ།,梵文天城体:कुछ,梵文罗马转写:kucha,汉语字面意思: कुछ), nor is it the enjoyer of its fruit, because it has no action. Nature itself is the agent, because it empowers the self with fruit. Furthermore, due to perversion, people cling to this as that. For example, when the sound of puruṣa (藏文:སྐྱེས་བུ།,梵文天城体:पुरुष,梵文罗马转写:puruṣa,汉语字面意思: पुरुष) and so on are considered to be the form of enjoying objects, nature fully understands the desire of puruṣa (藏文:སྐྱེས་བུ།,梵文天城体:पुरुष,梵文罗马转写:puruṣa,汉语字面意思: पुरुष) and unites with puruṣa (藏文:སྐྱེས་བུ།,梵文天城体:पुरुष,梵文罗马转写:puruṣa,汉语字面意思: पुरुष). Then sound and so on arise. The mind, through the actions of blessed hearing and so on, clings to the objects of sound and so on. Then puruṣa (藏文:སྐྱེས་བུ།,梵文天城体:पुरुष,梵文罗马转写:puruṣa,汉语字面意思: पुरुष) thinks about the things to which the mind clings. Likewise, because it is a conscious nature, it is devoid of guṇa (藏文:ཡོན་ཏན།,梵文天城体:गुण,梵文罗马转写:guṇa,汉语字面意思: गुण), and because it is pervasive, it has no action. This is the characteristic of the Sāṃkhya puruṣa As they say: Others believe that consciousness is different from the nature of buddhi (藏文:བློ།,梵文天城体:बुद्धि,梵文罗马转写:buddhi,汉语字面意思: बुद्धि), they believe that the original form of the self is conscious. It only enjoys the fruit given by pradhāna (藏文:གཙོ་བོ།,梵文天城体:प्रधान,梵文罗马转写:pradhāna,汉语字面意思: प्रधान), it is not itself the agent, they believe that nature is the agent. These guṇa (藏文:ཡོན་ཏན།,梵文天城体:गुण,梵文罗马转写:guṇa,汉语字面意思: गुण) are the actions of nature.
