Therefore. This is the unmistakable characteristic common to all the Buddha's teachings. As it says in the Sutra of Inciting Excellent Intentions: Maitreya, furthermore, by means of four reasons, all declarations should be recognized as spoken by the Buddha. What are the four? Maitreya, here, the declaration is in accordance with the meaning, and not not in accordance with the meaning; it is in accordance with the Dharma, and not not in accordance with the Dharma; it causes the cessation of afflictions, and not the increase of afflictions; it shows the qualities and benefits of Nirvana, and not the qualities and benefits of Samsara. Maitreya, if it possesses these four reasons, it should be recognized as before. Maitreya, whether it is a monk, or a nun, or a male lay practitioner, or a female lay practitioner, whoever it may be, if they declare or will declare with the confidence of these four reasons, then sons or daughters of good family who have faith should generate the perception of them as Buddhas, regard them as teachers, and listen to the sacred Dharma. Why is that? Maitreya, whatever is well spoken, all of that is said by the Buddha. Maitreya, if someone, because of dislike for a person, abandons those four reasons, saying that these are not spoken by the Buddha, and generates disrespect for them, then they have abandoned all the reasons spoken by the Buddha, abandoned the Dharma, and by manifestly engaging in the karma of being impoverished by the Dharma, they will go to the lower realms. Maitreya, therefore, any son or daughter of good family who has faith, desiring to be completely liberated from the karma of being impoverished by the Dharma, should not hate the Dharma because of hating a person. In this regard, not contradicting the nature of Dharma itself is the true characteristic. Whatever is meaningful, closely connected with the Dharma, a declaration that completely eliminates afflictions from the three realms, and whatever shows the benefits of peace, that is the word of a true sage, the opposite is otherwise. Thus it is said. This exists in the Mahayana, how can it become something that should not be accepted? First, to what you said, "This is not established," others will object, that is, when you and I

Do not say that both of us are established. However, the doctrine that is established in both others besides us is to be accepted. The Mahayana is not, because it is the opposite of that, therefore it should not be accepted. If it is said that the other two rely on intention, then it is said "if" and so on. If, because we are in dispute, anyone other than us thinks, manifestly thinks, and correctly thinks that those are established, until that is the true meaning and is promised, then the Vedas etc. will also become true. The characteristic of the Veda's language as an incentive will also become true. The word "etc." also makes the words such as remnants become true, and not false. That is also because it is possible for the other two besides the debater and the refuter to intend, so it will become acceptable to you. Therefore, there is no difference in this. Even if that is the case, there is no dispute that our doctrine is the Buddha's teaching, but the Mahayana is not, therefore that is to be accepted, and the other is not, if there is doubt, then it is said "Mahayana is in dispute" and so on. Being in dispute is being in wrong understanding, some think it is a limb of entering the Buddha's teaching, and some think it is an inverted slander. Therefore, if it is said that it should not be accepted, then at that time the doctrine will become something to be abandoned, and one's own doctrine should also be abandoned, and that will also become not a limb of entering. Why? Because it is in dispute with the heretics, i.e., the Samkhyas etc., and there may be wrong understanding, so it should be abandoned. It is not only with the heretics, but also with one's own sect, so it is said "self and." The teaching of the Blessed One was divided into eighteen sects from four sects, and it is possible that one sect may also be divided into many, so it is possible for one's own sects to dispute with each other, this is "self," which abides in the difference of the divisions within one's own sect. And "others" abide in other sects. The word "and" connects the former and the latter.
