Sa. Thus it is said. In order to eliminate all the suffering of all suffering beings and to endow them with all perfect happiness, why would striving in this way not become a special merit? Are not sentient beings themselves wise enough to know what is beneficial and what is not, what to obtain and what to abandon? Where is this effort needed? In order to answer this question with three verses. It is said, "Suffering," and so on. Those who wish to be free from suffering, through non-virtuous actions such as killing, those who wish to remedy suffering such as hunger, actually rush towards the very nature of suffering in abysses such as hell. They turn towards and enter into that very suffering, just as a moth jumps into the flame of a candle, they completely enter into suffering, that is the meaning. Therefore, the very desire for happiness, the very desire for manifest happiness, destroys one's own happiness like an enemy. How does one become like an enemy in order to destroy one's own happiness? Because of delusion. That is, being under the control of perversion. Because of not knowing what is beneficial and what is not, what to obtain and what to abandon. Therefore, "whoever" refers to the one who possesses the nature of merit, who is pleasing without cause. Therefore, "poverty" refers to those who desire happiness but do not find happiness in any way. "Suffering" refers to torment. "Abundant" refers to those who are oppressed by hundreds and thousands of kinds of suffering. To those, refers to those who are perverse. To satisfy and fill them with all the happiness that arises from body and mind. Or, "abundant" can be explained as satisfying people in various ways with all kinds of happiness. It is not just about generating satisfaction with happiness, but also about cutting off, that is, pacifying all suffering, that is, the feeling of all torment. It is not just about pacifying suffering, but also about satisfying people with happiness. It also eliminates delusion. That is, it also eliminates the state of complete ignorance, that is, "This is not the path, this is the path, fear from here! Advance from here, do not be discouraged!" Like this, one should abandon and

It is for the sake of showing the way to act. Like that, who can turn away the suffering of others, and strive to bring benefit and happiness to all beings? What can be compared to that? This means, what merit can be compared to that great being? There is no merit that can be compared. Because he is the most easily pleasing without any reason. Where is such a friend? One who is fully engaged in benefit and happiness, is a place of extreme trust, such a person is equal to him. Where is the friend? It does not exist. Where is such merit? The merit of a Bodhisattva who abides in such a way, that which is born, is not equal to any merit. Again, why is it said like that? It is said "bestowing favor" and so on. In the past, when favor is bestowed on fear, doubt, and afflictions, when someone repays by saying "this person has bestowed favor," then the world praises and extols, saying "this person is good!" "Whoever does good without being asked" means, what need is there to say about a Bodhisattva who does good without being asked? There is nothing to say, because he cannot be praised. In order to show the greatness of the Bodhisattva's nature in relation to the phenomena that are seen, it is said "a small amount of beings" and so on. For limited beings, merely giving food and drink is considered doing good, therefore they are respected and offered to by the worldly people who love those who surpass beings. That giving is also only for a moment, not the time when the sun rises or rises halfway, but only for a moment. "Merely giving food" means inferior food, that is, food that is not abundant. Only those, that is, only those, are not in accordance with that extent. Giving those, is giving those. How to give? "Accompanied by contempt" means accompanied by insults, without prior respect, but brought into the giving room, and beaten with fists and whips, etc., this is the difference in action. And what has it become like? "Making half a day full" means
