We should meditate on this. Emptiness is the enemy of the darkness of afflictions and cognitive obscurations. Since one desires to quickly attain omniscience, how could one not meditate on it? If fear arises from whatever causes suffering, how can fear arise from emptiness, which pacifies suffering? If there were even a little bit of a self, fear would arise from anything. Since there is not even a little bit of a self, who is it that becomes afraid? Teeth, hair, and nails are not the self. I am not bones and blood. Not snot, not phlegm, not serous fluid, and not pus either. I am not fat and not dust. The lungs and liver are also not the self. Other internal organs are also not the self. I am not external feces and urine. Flesh and skin are not the self. Warmth and breath are also not the self. Pores are not the self in any way. The six consciousnesses are also not the self. If the consciousness of sound were permanent, it would grasp sound at all times. If there is no object of knowledge, what would it cognize? What would one call consciousness? If unconsciousness were consciousness, then wood would also become conscious. Therefore, it is certain that if there is no object of knowledge nearby, there is no consciousness. If it cognizes form, why does it not hear at that time? If it is said that sound is not nearby, then therefore there is no consciousness of it. How can that which is the nature of grasping sound become grasping form? One is imputed as father and son, but it is not the true nature. Likewise, diligence, dust, and darkness are not son, nor are they father. That which possesses the nature of grasping sound has not been seen. If one sees it in a different way, like a dancer, then it is not permanent. If that different way is the same, then that one is uniquely without precedent. If that different way is not real, then speak of its own nature. If it is said to be consciousness, then all beings would become one. Mind and no-mind, those also, become one because existence is the same. When the distinctions are reversed, what is the basis for destruction at that time? The unconscious is also not the self, because it is unconscious, like a pot, etc. However, because it possesses mind, if it knows, then non-knowing is destroyed. If I am immutable, what does consciousness do to it? Thus, is the unconscious, devoid of activity, made into the nature of the self by space?

It is done. If I do not exist, then the relationship between action and result is not reasonable. Because once an action is done, it disappears, whose action will it become? Action and result are four different things, and there is no I to create them. Since both are established, then is there no point in arguing here? Saying that there is a cause and a result is not possible. Relying on one continuum, one is called the actor and the experiencer. The past and future minds are not me, because they do not exist. However, if the mind that is born is me, then when it disappears, there is no me either. For example, water, trees, tree trunks, etc., if divided into parts, there is nothing there. Similarly, through analysis and observation, searching for the self is also not real. If sentient beings do not exist, then who should compassion be directed towards? Making promises for the sake of the result is a foolish speculation. If there are no sentient beings, whose result is it? Indeed, but this is an attachment arising from ignorance. In order to pacify suffering, one should not abandon the ignorance of the result. The arrogance that is the cause of suffering will increase due to ignorance of the self. If there is no escape from that, then meditating on selflessness is the best. The body is not the foot, nor the shin. The thighs and waist are not the body either. The stomach and back are not the body, the chest and shoulders are not the body. The ribs and arms are not the body, the genitals and shoulders are not the body. The internal organs etc. are not the body, the head and neck are not the body, so what exactly is this body? If this body is in all parts, residing in each part, then the parts reside in the parts, but where does it itself reside? If the self is the body of all parts, residing on the hands etc., then how many hands etc. there are, that many bodies there will be. If there is no body inside and outside, then how can the hands etc. have a body? If there is nothing other than the hands etc., then how does it exist? Therefore, for those without a body etc., the thought of a body arises due to ignorance. Due to the special arrangement of shapes, just like the thought of a person arises for a wooden post. As long as the aggregation of causes and conditions exists, the body will appear like a person. Similarly, as long as the hands etc. exist, when it exists, the body will appear. Similarly, because it is a collection of fingers, what will the hand become? It is also a collection of joints, so joints.
