Thus, and so on, it is said. Because the seed of the perfect crop of the Victorious Ones is only compassion, therefore, first praise compassion; similarly, for the perfect crop of the Victorious Ones, the cause that makes it grow in stages, such as the path of accumulation and the path of preparation, is only compassion, like water; similarly, because for the perfect crop of the Victorious Ones, the cause for enjoying it for a long time is only compassion, like ripening; similarly, the cause for the continuous arising of the crop of the Victorious Ones from the continuum through the door of teaching the Dharma is only compassion, like ripening, therefore, I first praise only compassion, that is the meaning. In order to explain it with commentary, it is said, "How," and so on, with "fruit of fruit," and so on. "And so on" includes fruits, and so on. "Perfect" means many kinds. "With seed," and so on, the first necessity is the seed, because without it, fruit will not arise. The middle necessity is water, because without it, sprouts, leaves, branches, and so on, will not arise. The final necessity is ripening, because without it, it cannot be enjoyed for a long time, and through transmission, others will not be produced, so it will not last long. Then, in the middle and the end, seeds and water are also necessary, so why is water said in the middle and ripening said in the end? To dispel such doubts, it is said "main." Seeds and water are necessary in the middle and the end, but even so, water in the middle and ripening in the end are the main ones, so it is said that way, not just from the point of view of necessity. "Also in the three times" means first, middle, and last. In order to show that compassion is necessary at all three times for the perfect crop of the Victorious Ones. Thus, "compassionate one," and so on, is said, which is easy to understand. In order to show its function, it is said, "As it is said," and so on. "Compassion," and so on, is composed in order to avoid slandering the Great Vehicle. Whatever compassion leads in the Great Vehicle

Who would revile that Great Vehicle which proclaims that the mind of enlightenment with faith and all practices such as the perfections are free from the defilement of manifest clinging by the wisdom of emptiness? Only some who have no faith would revile, how would those with faith revile? This is the concluding remark. Here, the quote "Compassion precedes all actions, wisdom without defilement is taught" shows that compassion is what precedes all the Buddha's teachings. Now, in terms of the need for compassion in between, it is said, "Even if the mind of enlightenment has been generated," etc., compassion alone is the water. Again and again, that is, in each moment. If it is not moistened, that is, if it does not have compassion. The collection of fruits is for the purpose of benefiting limitless sentient beings. Powers and fearlessness, etc., are the collection of fruits, that is, the Buddha himself, this is the concluding remark. If it is not accumulated, that is, if there is no compassion, the vast accumulation will not be accumulated, etc. "The Hearers," etc., just like a candle being extinguished, the aggregates of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas will pass into nirvana without remainder. Finally, in order to show that compassion is also needed, "Limitless fruit," etc., is said. Limitless fruit is the attainment of the state of abandoning the obscurations of the Buddha's teachings, including habitual tendencies, that is, the state of attaining Buddhahood itself, this is the concluding remark. The complete ripening of compassion is compassion that arises spontaneously. If it is separated, that is, if the state of Buddhahood and compassion are not in accordance. "This" refers to the Buddha. "Will not enjoy for a long time" means that the enjoyment of the Dharma will not be enjoyed for a long time, because without compassion, one will quickly pass into nirvana. In order to show that compassion causes one to abide for a long time, "Noble fruit," etc., is said. "The great collection of noble fruit" refers to that which has the characteristics of a Buddha. "Passing from one order to another" refers to from Buddha to Buddha.
