That is, to that compassion which intends to truly liberate beings who are subject to the power of karma and afflictions due to their manifest attachment to self and what belongs to self, from suffering and the cause of suffering, I prostrate. In order to explain it with commentary, it says, "This world is," and so on. "Manifestly clinging to truth in this" means manifestly clinging to "This self is true." "This is mine" refers to others, such as sons. "Manifestly clinging to all aspects of things other than the object of self-grasping" means manifestly clinging to "This is mine" to sons and others who have not become the object of self-grasping. Now, in order to explain the meaning of "like a floating water bucket," it says, "I," and so on. There are six qualities in the continuum of a water bucket: being bound by a rope, having the nature of being subject to others, revolving in a well, having the nature of going downwards, needing to be drawn upwards with effort, being unable to determine the order of before, after, and middle, and having the nature of decaying day by day. Beings also have similar qualities, which is what it indicates. Regarding "karma and afflictions," karma is virtuous and non-virtuous, and so on. Afflictions are desire and so on. The near afflictions are branches of afflictions, so they are not mentioned separately. Karma and afflictions are the rope, and because they are tightly bound by it, one cannot be liberated from samsara by the power of karma and afflictions. "The wheel-turner depends on the movement of consciousness" means that consciousness is the wheel-turner, and it depends on how it moves and drives it. The meaning of this is that beings are born where consciousness goes upward. "From the peak of existence" means starting from the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. "Floating" means that consciousness turns the wheel, that is, it turns it downwards. "By its own nature" means towards virtue.

Lacking the effort of action. 'Going downwards' refers to the nature of going to places like hell. How to rectify with effort means rectifying from places like hell with great effort through the power of virtuous deeds and so on. Although there are three all-pervasive defilements: ignorance and so on, karma, and birth, namely, ignorance, craving, and grasping are the all-pervasive defilements of affliction. Among these, not understanding the two truths is ignorance. Particularly delighting in another existence without distinction is 'existence'. Particularly delighting in the path of existence, wishing to be born as a god or a naga, is 'grasping'. Among these, ignorance is the cause of birth. Craving and grasping are the causes that accomplish future birth. These three afflictions themselves are all-pervasive defilements, because one becomes all-pervasively defiled by them. Formation and existence are the all-pervasive defilements of karma. Among these, the very act of desiring non-virtuous actions, and the virtuous contaminated actions of the three realms are 'formation'. Karma that has the result of future existence is called 'existence'. Among these, the karma that becomes the cause of this birth is 'formation'. The karma that becomes the cause of future birth is 'existence'. These two are the all-pervasive defilements of karma. The all-pervasive defilement of that birth is consciousness, name, form, the six sense sources, contact, feeling, birth, and old age and death, these seven things. Among these, the mind that is imbued by whatever seed of karma there is, is consciousness conditioned by formation, so said the teacher Chandrakirti. In the Abhidharmakosha, it is said: At the time of conception in the mother's womb, the five aggregates, with formation as the condition, are consciousness. The condition for consciousness is name and form, that is, in the mother's womb, consciousness, feeling, perception, and formation, these four formless aggregates, and the form that appears as it exists, only that is called the Kalala stage. Among these, the four aggregates
