It is said, "From the notion of other than self, and from the distinction between self and other, arise attachment and hatred. Through the connection of these two, all faults arise completely." These refer to desire and hatred. "All faults" refers to miserliness, jealousy, and so on. Just as a sea cannot exist without water, similarly, the sea of the view of the aggregates does not arise without the water of ignorance. Therefore, it is said that the water of ignorance is vast and extensive. "By the wind of improper thought" refers to the emptiness of the inherent nature of things, and so on. Similarly, conceptualization is like saying that all phenomena are emptiness. Improper thought is like saying that all phenomena have inherent existence and are permanent. That itself is the wind, which causes the nature of ignorance to move. Thus, ignorance is said to be not knowing. That not knowing does not follow improper thought, so that thought arises moment by moment, and therefore ignorance is said to be moving. Therefore, it is said to be moving. "Dwelling within" is easy to understand. Like the reflection of the moon in water, or the reflection of the moon in the sky. Whose reflection is this? It is said to be the result of one's own actions, both virtuous and non-virtuous. "Like a reflection" means following according to the nature of virtue and non-virtue, that is, arising in happiness and unhappiness following virtuous and non-virtuous actions. "Those who dwell in front" are those sentient beings who are accomplished by karma and afflictions, and those who dwell in front of the Bodhisattvas. "Moment by moment" and so on, means suffering from the suffering of conditioned existence, relying on impermanent causes and conditions. That suffering of impermanence itself is the suffering of conditioned existence of sentient beings. "Like being destroyed" means that if one attains Buddhahood, the suffering of impermanence can be averted. "The Holy Dharma" and so on, is because it is virtuous in the beginning, middle, and end.

The beautiful Dharma is the sacred Dharma. It itself has the characteristic of nectar, because other nectars only eliminate the suffering of death at some time, but it prevents the suffering of death at all times, so it is said to be the supreme of nectars. Drinking it is what is grasped by hearing, thinking, and meditating. Its cause is the Buddha himself. This Buddha himself, who has the nature of perfect enjoyment, is the cause for the bodhisattvas of the ten powers to drink the nectar of the sacred Dharma. The so-called "inverted" and so on, refers to the characteristic of completely inverting all the discriminations that are of an inverted nature. This shows the nature of emptiness, which is the Dharmakaya. As it is said in the commentary on the Mind of Enlightenment: "The Buddha spoke of emptiness as having the characteristic of cutting off the continuum of virtuous and non-virtuous discriminations." The so-called "becoming the nature of a friend to all beings" means that the Emanation Body benefits and brings happiness to all beings. This shows the Buddha himself, who is of the nature of the Emanation Body. Having thus explained compassion, in order to show the connection, the words "those" and so on are spoken. The so-called "those" refers to those who are controlled by compassion. The so-called ten divisions of the Mind of Enlightenment refers to the intention to show the ten divisions of the Mind of Enlightenment through the divisions of the ten grounds (Joyful Ground, etc.). For the time being, with regard to the first Mind of Enlightenment, the so-called "with regard to the first Mind of Enlightenment" means that the ultimate Mind of Enlightenment combined with the first ground, the Joyful Ground, is the first of all Minds of Enlightenment, so it is said "with regard to the first." The order in it is like this: Generating the twenty-two Minds of Enlightenment is also called the Great Vehicle, and it itself is also called the Bodhisattva Path with fruit. The twenty-two Minds of Enlightenment in it are: combined with desire, combined with intention, combined with application, combined with increased intention.

Accompanied by the perfection of generosity, accompanied by the perfection of ethics, accompanied by the perfection of patience, accompanied by the perfection of diligence, accompanied by the perfection of meditation, accompanied by the perfection of wisdom, accompanied by the four immeasurables, accompanied by the five superknowledges, accompanied by the four objects of collection, accompanied by the four kinds of perfect knowledge, accompanied by the four reliances, accompanied by the accumulations of merit and wisdom, accompanied by the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, accompanied by calm abiding and insight, accompanied by dharani and eloquence, accompanied by the four ways of teaching the Dharma, accompanied by the one vehicle path, accompanied by skillful means. Among these, the first three are the aspiration for enlightenment. The remaining nineteen are the engagement in enlightenment. Thus it is said: The three aspects are the aspiration for enlightenment, By the distinction of desire and the like. The mind that is called engagement, Is desired to be nineteen. So it is said. Each of the twenty-two mind moments of arising that are united with desire is endowed with the six perfections, so there is a great joy in believing that it exists, and a great joy arises in thinking that it is endowed with qualities, and a bodhisattva arises who desires to manifest because of the great joy in being able to obtain it, thinking that those who have merit through desire and following others do not accomplish the meaning of manifesting desire, and therefore, in order to accumulate the collection of virtues such as generating the mind of enlightenment, one generates the mind of aspiration for enlightenment. Among these, the characteristics of the aspiration for enlightenment that is united with desire have already been explained in the context of the teachings of the Noble Sutra of Discriminating All Dharmas. That is also the same as the actual generation of the mind.
