Then, in sequence, there is the time of non-conceptualization, and in the time of conceptualization, what is sought by the mind is conceptualization, and that is the grossness of the mind. Relying on mind or wisdom, being in non-conceptualization, and in the state of non-conceptualization, the function of the mind that separately contemplates is investigation, and that is the subtlety of the mind. Like this, as an antidote to desire, being equal to conceptualization and investigation, therefore it is called having conceptualization and investigation, and the meaning of desire is accomplished. Because the body and mind are light and at ease, therefore it is accompanied by joy and mental pleasure. "Dwelling" means entering into meditative absorption and abiding. "That" refers to the yogi. Seeing that conceptualization and investigation disturb the mind, therefore the mind becomes weary of the two, focusing the mind on the cause of non-conceptualization and non-investigation, separating the mind from the object of focus, and settling the mind on the object of focus that is not scattered. Therefore, it is said to be free from conceptualization and investigation, and the inner being is completely clear. "The mind stream becoming one" means pacifying the distracted mind, the state of having conceptualization transcends the state of trauma and interruption, and through the power of practice, the state of trauma and interruption is attained. Therefore, it is said that the mind stream becomes one, meaning that conceptualization and investigation are not allowed to enter the stream, therefore it becomes one taste. Because all conceptualization and investigation are completely abandoned, therefore it is called non-conceptualization and non-investigation. "Having joy and pleasure" is the same as before. "Being free from attachment to joy" is because of its grossness. "Abiding in equanimity" means abandoning the conceptualization and investigation that disturb the mind, as well as joy, and maintaining a state of equanimity towards them. This is also so that the feeling and attention that accompany joy are not given an opportunity, therefore mindfulness is present. Even if it arises occasionally, it will not remain for long.

There, wisdom becomes very vast. Therefore, it is said, "Being mindful and conscientious." When abiding in a state where equanimity is strong, abandoning the mind that arises together with joy, and experiencing the peaceful equality of non-joy, at that time, the body of consciousness will experience the feeling of happiness. Therefore, it is said, "The body experiences happiness." The body refers to both the physical body and the body of consciousness. Regarding "The noble ones," etc., the two lower dhyanas do not have such equanimity, and the higher ones have equanimity but not happiness. Therefore, only this dhyana is the basis of happiness and equanimity. "The noble ones" refers to the Buddhas and Shravakas. Regarding "Also abandoning happiness," it refers to that which arises together with the third dhyana. This shows that the fourth dhyana abandons happiness. Regarding "Having previously abandoned suffering," it refers to starting from the first dhyana. Regarding "The happiness of mind and the unhappiness of mind having previously ceased," it refers to the fact that the happiness of mind ceased because the third dhyana abandoned joy, and the first dhyana abandoned the unhappiness of mind. Having abandoned these four feelings, only the feeling that is neither suffering nor happiness remains. Therefore, it is said, "Neither happiness nor suffering." Regarding "Equanimity and mindfulness being completely purified," it is because the fourth dhyana is free from the eight faults of the lower grounds. Those eight faults are: coarse thought and subtle thought, inhalation and exhalation, happiness and suffering, happiness of mind and unhappiness of mind. Regarding "The four formless absorptions," it is because they make the mind the same as the formless realm. "He" refers to the yogi. Regarding "From the perception of form," it refers to the perception of blue, yellow, red, white, and so on. Regarding "Having completely transcended," it refers to having completely transcended all of them by meditating on the perception of all of space, that is, their perceptions no longer arise.
