Two things must be admitted: the self that is fixated upon by imputation and the self that is co-emergent. Among these, the self that is fixated upon by imputation is abandoned by realizing the selflessness of the person at the stage of the path of seeing. How can the view of the aggregates that is co-emergent be abandoned without fully understanding that it is without inherent existence? If it is said that it is abandoned by meditating on impermanence and so forth, that is not the case, because meditating on impermanence and so forth does not make the aggregates manifest as being without inherent existence, but rather that each moment is impermanent. Therefore, since the aggregates, which are the cause of imputing a self, exist, how can the view of the aggregates that is co-emergent cease? If one wants to attain liberation even if the view of the aggregates that is co-emergent exists, then it would follow that one would be liberated merely by attaining the path of seeing. Therefore, in order to abandon the view of the aggregates that is co-emergent, it is necessary to admit fully understanding the selflessness of phenomena. Thus, through reasoning, it is established that the Hearers and so forth have a complete understanding of the two selflessnesses. In order to cite the source of the Ratnavali to explain the complete understanding of the two selflessnesses, "As it is said" and so forth are mentioned. As it is said, as long as there is attachment to the aggregates, there will be attachment to the self, because it is caused by attachment to the aggregates. If there is self-grasping, then there will also be action, that is: If there is a self, then one knows there is another. From the division of self and other, arise attachment and hatred. From these two, all faults arise. In the way that it arises, if there is self-grasping, it will create actions that cause attachment and hatred and so forth to arise. From that, there is also birth, which means that from the power of that action, one will be born in the various realms with the characteristics of the six sense bases. The three paths refer to the wheel of cyclic existence with the three paths of grasping, action, and birth. Whoever has this wheel is called that. Without beginning, without end, without middle, refers to that which has no beginning is called without beginning, that which has no end is called without end, and the space between them is called the middle.

Therefore, these are not truly existent in the ultimate sense, because the aggregates themselves lack inherent existence. In the conventional sense, according to the power of each individual, there is also no beginning, end, or middle. For example, there is no beginning, because that would lead to causelessness. There is also no end, because the noble path has not yet arisen. Because there is no beginning and end, there is also no middle. The term "wheel of cyclic existence" and so forth refers to the five aggregates that revolve from one existence to another. It itself is a wheel because it revolves from one existence to another. For example, like the so-called "firebrand wheel," just as the shape of a wheel is formed from a half-burnt piece of wood being spun around, so too is the wheel of cyclic existence. The meaning here is that just as the illusion created by spinning a firebrand makes it appear like a wheel, even though the wheel of cyclic existence does not actually exist, it still appears because the eye of wisdom is obscured and one falls into wrong views. The so-called "this, having mutual causes, becomes cyclic existence" is because self-grasping arises in dependence on the aggregates, and the aggregates arise in dependence on self-grasping. Through mutual causality, it completely revolves in the five realms of existence. Just like the firebrand wheel, it is not saying that the wheel of cyclic existence actually exists, but rather to point out that very fact. Therefore, it mentions "it is both natures" and so forth. The so-called "it" refers to the wheel of cyclic existence. The so-called "self" refers to the fact that the aggregates themselves are not perceived as arising from themselves. Because if they arose from themselves, would they arise from a self that already exists, or from a self that does not exist? Not from a self that already exists, because if the self's own nature already exists, then there would be no arising, and it is contradictory to act upon oneself. Nor is it from a self that does not exist, because something that does not exist cannot be a cause, and the view of self-arising would collapse. The aggregates are also not perceived as arising from others, because if they arose from others, would they arise from a cause, or from a non-cause? If from a non-cause, then everything would arise from everything. If from a cause, then that is also unreasonable, because the cause is established in dependence on the effect, so as long as
