There is only complete knowledge of non-existence. By merely realizing that the apprehended lacks inherent existence, Pratyekabuddhas have complete knowledge of one aspect of the absence of self in phenomena. Bodhisattvas have complete knowledge of the absence of the two selves. Thus it is said. This shows that it is unreasonable. Is it from scripture or from reasoning that the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas do not have complete knowledge of the absence of self in phenomena? It is not from scripture, for the Sutra of the Ten Bhumis itself should establish that Shravakas and others have realization of the absence of self in phenomena. Why? Because in the Sutra of the Ten Bhumis it is said that they overcome the seventh bhumi by discriminating with the power of their own intelligence, but it is not said in the first bhumi and so on. If Shravakas and others do not have complete knowledge of the absence of self in phenomena, then in the beginning, how would Bodhisattvas be of the nature of great realization because they have more complete knowledge of the absence of self in phenomena than Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas? The word "na" in this scripture refers to the Sutra of the Ten Bhumis. As for "like those who are free from worldly desire," "worldly" refers to those who have not attained the uncontaminated path. "Free from desire" refers to being free from desire in the desire realm and the eight others. Here, there are nine levels due to the distinction between the desire realm, the four dhyanas, and the four formless realms. Among them, whoever is free from worldly desire obtains freedom from desire from the desire realm and so on up to the sphere of nothingness, in the eight levels, by focusing on the lower and lower levels as coarser and the higher and higher levels as finer. Freedom from desire cannot be obtained from the level of the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, because there is no other level above it. Therefore, it is said that these do not have the abandonment of afflictions that operate in the three realms. How then do those who are free from worldly desire overcome Bodhisattvas who have generated the first thought, because those who are free from worldly desire do not have complete knowledge of the absence of inherent existence? Similarly, the mind
