For the sake of... As mentioned earlier, "so-called" etc., refers to a Bodhisattva who dwells in the Joyful Land, relying on the power of merit, far surpassing the realms of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, and giving rise to the Path of Seeing that follows the realm of the Buddha. Therefore, they are born into the lineage of the Tathagatas, in order to realize the Dharmakaya of their own nature. The so-called "three universal bonds" refer to being universally bound in existence by these, hence they are universal bonds. These are three: the view of the aggregates as a real self, doubt, and clinging to ethics and asceticism. The so-called "having abandoned everything" means that everything has been completely abandoned through the Path of Seeing. Although one has already abandoned desire and so on, because there are still remnants of desire and so on that must be abandoned through cultivation, one has not completely abandoned these remnants, and therefore it is not said to be abandoned. If it is said that because one has not abandoned desire, anger, pride, ignorance, and the view of the extreme, which must be abandoned through cultivation, it is not said to be abandoned, then why is it not said that one has abandoned the view of clinging to views and wrong views in all respects? The answer to these is that because it is said that the root of clinging to views and so on, namely the view of clinging to ethics and asceticism and doubt, has been abandoned, it can also be understood that these have been abandoned. For example, clinging to views leads to clinging to ethics and asceticism, because taking what is not the path as the path is clinging to ethics and asceticism, and seeing views as the cause of excellence and purity is clinging to views. Therefore, by saying that clinging to ethics and asceticism has been abandoned, it is also understood that clinging to views that consider views to be the cause of excellence and purity has also been abandoned. Wrong views arise through doubt, for example, regarding the truth, the Three Jewels, karma and its results, a mind of non-existence arises through doubt. Therefore, by saying that doubt has been abandoned, it is also understood that wrong views have been abandoned, so wrong views have

I have spoken the word "no." Furthermore, there are three obstacles to going to another place: not wanting to go, losing the way by relying on another path, and doubting the path. Similarly, there are these three obstacles to going to liberation: clinging to the view of the aggregates, fearing that one will disappear and not wanting to be liberated for fear of turning to ashes. Clinging to morality and asceticism, one goes astray by relying on another path. Doubting the path of doubt. Therefore, in order to show that these obstacles to going to liberation have been abandoned by the stream-enterer, the Blessed One spoke of having abandoned these three. Thus, after showing the qualities of being born into the lineage of the Tathagata and abandoning the three universal bonds, in order to show the meaning of the Joyful Ground by showing the qualities of having the characteristic of great joy, it is said, "That Bodhisattva holds great joy." That is, having attained the path of seeing, in order to abandon the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing, and to attain the qualities of seeing a hundred Buddhas, etc., that Bodhisattva will hold great joy. Because at this stage the Bodhisattva holds extreme joy, it is called the Joyful Ground. In order to show the quality of power, it is said, "Also able to shake a hundred worlds." That is, the power to shake a hundred worlds has arisen. Thus, it is also said in the sutra that in a single instant one obtains and enters into a hundred different samadhis, and one also sees a hundred Buddhas, and one is also blessed by them, and one shakes and illuminates a hundred worlds, and one transcends a hundred Buddha-fields, and one matures a hundred sentient beings, and one abides for a hundred kalpas, and so on. In order to explain the verse through commentary, it is said, "Ordinary people and" etc., that is, having attained the path of seeing, the ground of faith-practice is abandoned.
