This is the Bodhi of the Shravakas. Thus, I have completely known suffering, thoroughly abandoned the origin, realized cessation, and cultivated the path. Knowing the exhaustion and non-arising of such aspects is called Bodhi. Because it can be attained, it is called Shravaka, which means that for other such Bodhi, the ear is the object, that is the Shravaka. In what way does one hear? It is said, "Thus," etc. "Thus" is for the purpose of clarifying the meaning previously shown. "The deed has been done" means that suffering has been known, the origin has been abandoned, cessation has been realized, and the deed of the nature of cultivating the path has been done. "Beyond this, no other existence is known" means that there is no other existence beyond this existence. The word "etc." means that birth is exhausted. Brahmacharya should be practiced. In order to explain the meaning of the word Shravaka in another way, "Or" etc. is said. "Or" is a statement that explains in another way. What is that other aspect? It is said, "The supreme of the fruit," etc., which means that the Shravaka proclaims the supreme of the fruit, the perfect and complete enlightenment. In order to explain the other aspects of the explanation, "Perfectly complete" etc. is said, which means that having heard from the Tathagatas who possess the wisdom of understanding how all the paths of the supreme and perfectly complete enlightenment exist, those who seek the path of enlightenment, the ear is the object, that is the Shravaka. Thus, the Bodhi of the Shravakas and the supreme and perfectly complete enlightenment and the path of enlightenment are heard by others, therefore it is said to be Shravaka. In order to show the sacred Dharma White Lotus in this meaning of Shravaka, that the supreme and perfectly complete enlightenment and the Bodhi of the Shravakas can be attained.

Next, it is said that because one attains the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment by hearing from others, they are called Shravakas. The term "enlightenment" here refers to the Shravaka's enlightenment, which is characterized by knowing cessation and non-arising. Therefore, the word "supreme" is not mentioned here. The term "sound also proclaims extensively" means that Shravakas extensively proclaim the enlightenment characterized by knowing cessation and non-arising. Therefore, we are called Shravakas because of the two reasons mentioned earlier. "Similar to inexhaustible" is a distinction in the words of Shravakas. Just as fire burns wood and other things, when all our afflictions are burned, it is like being inexhaustible. If it is said that one is called a Shravaka because they attain two enlightenments, then wouldn't Bodhisattvas also become Shravakas since they attain two enlightenments? To answer this, it is said, "Even Bodhisattvas," etc. Even though Bodhisattvas attain the enlightenment of Shravakas and perfect and complete enlightenment. Then, why don't they become Shravakas? The answer is, although it is so, it is said, "Although it is so," etc. "Although it is so" means even though they attain two enlightenments. Even so, it is only proclaiming, which means making the two enlightenments the object of hearing. Because of "conformity," etc., Shravakas, because they are Shravakas, do not cultivate the path that conforms to the two enlightenments, while Bodhisattvas, because they know the path of the two enlightenments, do not become overly Shravakas. To explain the meaning of the words of the intermediate Buddha, it is said, "The sound of Buddha," etc. Because the sound of Buddha is used to comprehend Suchness, comprehending Suchness also exists in the grounds of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and the three, the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Buddhas. Therefore, the sound of Buddha also expresses Pratyekabuddhas. If there is no difference in the realization of Suchness, then why aren't Pratyekabuddhas called Shravakas and unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Buddhas?

English

What does it mean to say? The answer to that is, it is said, "Those are," and so on. "Those are" refers to the Pratyekabuddhas. Regarding "the distinction of increasing merit and wisdom," and so on, the distinction of increasing wisdom is that the Pratyekabuddhas have abandoned the apprehended conceptualization, while the Shravakas have not abandoned it. The distinction of increasing merit should be understood from being combined with the distinction of increasing wisdom. Otherwise, like the Shravakas, the Pratyekabuddhas would not increase in wisdom either. Regarding "the accumulation of merit and wisdom," the accumulation of merit is the Paramitas of generosity, discipline, and patience. The accumulation of wisdom is the Paramitas of meditation and wisdom. The Paramita of diligence is the cause of both, therefore it is said in between the two. "Great compassion" refers to compassion without an object. "All-knowingness" refers to the non-dual wisdom without obscurations of the Buddha's state, in terms of those to be tamed. The word "etc." should be understood to include the ten powers, etc. Because they do not have these, they are inferior to the Buddhas, and because they exist between the Shravakas and the Samyak-sambuddhas, they are called intermediate Buddhas. Thus, the meaning of the term "intermediate Buddha" is shown. In order to show the meaning of the term "Pratyekabuddha," another name for the intermediate Buddha, it is said, "For that," and so on. "For that" is because they exist between the Shravakas and the Samyak-sambuddhas. "Those are" refers to the intermediate Buddhas. "Wisdom arises without being closely shown" is because of the power of the habitual tendencies of not having heard Suchness, etc., in previous lives, wisdom arises without relying on the teachings of others. "Becoming enlightened alone is called Pratyekabuddha" means that they do not teach the Dharma to others, but become enlightened alone, therefore they are called Pratyekabuddhas. Thus, the meaning of the terms Shravaka and Pratyekabuddha are shown. The meaning of the term "Thubwang Kye" (Sage Born)
