Also because of having it. The division of parts has been explained. Because it becomes the place of merit, it refers to the place of all the merits that will be explained, such as obtaining a hundred samadhis. Obtaining the name "ground" is like how the earth is called "ground" because it is the place for sentient beings, likewise, the generation of bodhicitta is also called "ground" because it is the basis of merit. Such knowledge called "ground" has no self-nature in the ultimate sense, so even if the divisions caused by the distinctions of its own essence no longer exist, in order to show the divisions in the conventional sense, it is said, "That also," etc. That knowledge is also divided into ten types by the divisions of the Joyful Ground, etc. Among them, here, for the first ground, the Joyful Ground, etc., the classification is done in terms of four aspects: obtaining a greater number of merits, obtaining greater power, the perfection of generosity, etc., increasing even more, and the distinction of superior fruition. Among them, obtaining a greater number of merits is like this: for example, on the first ground, in one instant, one obtains a hundred samadhis, will enter into samadhi, will see the Buddhas, and will know their blessings, etc. Obtaining greater power is being able to shake a hundred world realms, being able to illuminate, and increasing a hundred Buddhafields, etc. On the second ground, obtaining a greater number of merits is obtaining a thousand samadhis in one instant, seeing a thousand Buddhas, etc. The power is being able to shake a thousand world realms, etc. These merits and powers, on all the grounds, at that time, a hundred Buddhas will be seen by this one, etc., will be explained at the time of showing the merits of the grounds. Here, merits and powers are shown separately, but below, power is shown as the nature of merit. The perfection of generosity, etc., increasing even more, has already been explained before. The distinction of superior fruition is that when the first ground is obtained, Jambudvipa

Having obtained this position, one can rule the four continents and become a Chakravartin king. As it is said in the Ratnamala: The perfection of generosity is the most excellent, It can shake a hundred thousand worlds, It can rule Jambudvipa, The fruit of maturation will be born here. Thus and so forth has been spoken. Saying "these" and so on, is because there is no self-nature of wisdom in the ultimate sense. In order to explain that the words of the Ten Bhumi Sutra should be done in that way. As it is said and so on has been said. For example, wise people cannot speak or see the traces of a bird flying in the sky, because they cannot completely cut off the area of the sky. It is not that birds do not fly there. Similarly, wise people cannot speak or hear the basis of collections of names, sentences, and letters that are similar to the traces of birds, that is, the self-nature wisdom of each Bodhisattva ground, because sound does not have its own nature as it is. However, it is not that one should not establish collections of names, sentences, and letters in the conventional sense. In order to explain the differences in the names of the ten grounds, it has been said such and so on. That is, the ten bodhicittas are named Joyful, Immaculate, Luminous, Radiant, Difficult to Tame, Manifest, Gone Afar, Immovable, Good Intelligence, and Cloud of Dharma. The ten bhumis of a Bodhisattva should be understood like the stages of a fetus, because the bhumis are obscured. Just as the stage of birth is the stage of Buddhahood, because the activity has been completed and all that is to be known has been experienced. Just as one experiences the objects of all birthplaces and faculties. Among them, there are ten stages of the fetus, namely the stage of the seminal fluid body, the stage of the flesh body, the stage of the soft body, the stage of the hard body, the stage of the body corresponding to the body, the stage of the body corresponding to the nature, the stage of the body corresponding to the karma, and the stage of the complete body.
