There are also eighty-one paths for cultivating antidotes to the eighty-one afflictions. Just as the path of cultivating antidotes to the afflictions of the desire realm is divided into three types: small, medium, and large. And each of these is further divided into nine types by distinctions such as the smallest of the small. Similarly, the path of cultivating antidotes to each affliction is divided into nine types, so there are one hundred and eleven paths. There is also a distinction in that, on each ground, the greatest of the great afflictions is eliminated by the smallest of the small paths. Similarly, the medium of the great is eliminated by the medium of the small, and the smallest of the great is eliminated by the largest of the small. Similarly, the greatest of the medium is eliminated by the smallest of the medium, the medium of the medium is eliminated by the medium of the medium, and the smallest of the medium is eliminated by the largest of the medium. Similarly, the largest of the small is eliminated by the smallest of the large, the medium of the small is eliminated by the medium of the large, and the smallest of the small afflictions is eliminated by the largest of the large, so it should be understood that the categories of antidotes are established in opposition to the categories of afflictions. Why is it that the greatest of the great afflictions is eliminated by the smallest of the small path? Because the greatest of the great afflictions is usually associated with the causes of shamelessness and immodesty, it is easy to manifest and cut off. Therefore, just as with coarse dirt, it can be eliminated by a small antidote. Whatever is difficult to cut off, the subtle affliction, the smallest of the small, like fine dirt, is eliminated by the power of the greatest of the great antidote, so it should be understood that the establishment of the incompatible aspects and the categories of antidotes is shown in reverse. Furthermore, for each type of path, one should understand that it has the nature of the path of application, the path of immediate effect, and the path of liberation. That is, by cultivating a certain path, one gradually becomes separated from the great of the great afflictions and other bad states, thereby causing the basis to be completely transformed, which is called the path of application of the path of cultivation. By means of it, immediately cutting off the great of the great afflictions

Therefore, since one is completely separated from enemies and everything else, that which becomes the complete support is called the uninterrupted path of the path of meditation. This should be understood like driving away a thief, because he drives away the thief of afflictions. By what does one manifest the complete support that has abandoned afflictions, that is, manifest liberation, therefore, it is called the liberation path of the path of meditation. This should be understood like closing doors and windows, because he does not give the thief of afflictions any opportunity. Thus, the incompatible aspects and the aspects of the antidote are shown. Therefore, in the desire realm, the antidote to the nine aspects to be abandoned by meditation is the nine paths of meditation. The nine grounds, which are the nature of nine bodhicittas, are: stainless, luminous, radiant, difficult to tame, manifest, far-reaching, immovable, excellent wisdom, and the cloud of dharma. Therefore, the distinctions of beings should be shown. When one is in the fifteenth moment of the path of seeing, which is the nature of the sixteen moments of the very joyous ground, at that time, that being is called one who has entered the fruit of stream-entry. Again, when one is in the sixteenth moment, and stainless, luminous, radiant, and difficult to tame, that is, when one is in the fourth aspect of the path of meditation, which is the nature of the ground, at that time, one is a stream-enterer. Manifest, that is, being in the fifth aspect of the path of meditation, which is the nature of the ground, is the one who has entered the fruit of once-returner. Far-reaching, that is, being in the sixth aspect of the path of meditation, which is the nature of the ground, is called a once-returner. Immovable, that is, the seventh aspect of the nature of the ground, and excellent wisdom, that is, being in the eighth aspect of the path of meditation, which is the nature of the ground, is called one who has entered the fruit of non-returner. The cloud of dharma, that is, being in the ninth aspect of the path of meditation, which is the nature of the ground, is called a non-returner, because one has abandoned the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing and meditation in the desire realm, therefore, it is the desire realm.
