It is said, "Because it is a place of infinity," and so on. Because it is a place of conditioned phenomena, such as aggregates and realms, with infinite distinctions. Because all things are perceived through the gate of emptiness, it is a thing. Just as the sky pervades all things, it is called great. In order to further explain the reason for its greatness, it is said, "All ignorance," and so on. Because it has abandoned afflictions and habitual tendencies, it is called the Great Vehicle. It is like gaining greatness by having the power to overcome enemies. In order to dispel the doubts of others, it is said, "If," and so on. Because the vehicle and the path are the same, it is to be traveled, that is, to be reached. It refers to Nirvana. Because it is one, if the Bhagavan of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas shows Nirvana, will it contradict this? In order to answer by explaining that "showing the three vehicles here is intentional," it is said, "This teaching," and so on. The so-called "this teaching" refers to showing the three vehicles. The so-called "intentional" means that it is shown in relation to those to be tamed, but it is not ultimate. In order to show that point, it is said, "Because of what," and so on. The so-called "degenerate age" refers to decay. There are also five types, namely, the degenerate age of sentient beings, the degenerate age of the eon, the degenerate age of afflictions, the degenerate age of views, and the degenerate age of life. Thus, no matter what kind of degenerate age it is, sentient beings are called degenerate because they are not suitable for ultimate wisdom due to the five degenerate ages. Among them, the degenerate age of sentient beings refers to the small size of the body, and so on. The degenerate age of the eon refers to excessive or insufficient rainfall, and so on. Affliction
