It is said that "not knowing that suchness" means not fully understanding emptiness. "Not being able to completely abandon the afflictions" means not being able to abandon the afflictions together with their imprints, in the manner of "if there is a thing, conceptualization arises." "It has already been explained before" is like "the division of containers does not divide the sky," and so on. "Different views" means because there are many views. "There is no distinction in that" refers to the suchness that is the nature of unborn. In order to show that since it is not possible to make changes and distinctions in the suchness that is the nature of emptiness, therefore the knowledge that has suchness as its object is also suchness, it is said, "Like this, wisdom," and so on. "Because one does not understand how the nature abides" means because one does not comprehend the emptiness that abides as one nature. In order to show the conclusion, it is said, "For what reason," and so on. In order to show the source of the sutra, it is said, "Light Protector," and so on. "If one realizes the equality of all dharmas" means if one understands that all dharmas have equality by the nature of emptiness. Therefore, whatever establishes the distinctions of the three vehicles is said for the purpose of leading children, and is not the definitive meaning. As it is said in the Lankavatara Sutra: "For the sake of guiding children, I speak of the distinctions of vehicles. The distinctions of vehicles do not exist; I speak of one vehicle." This is because the distinctions are made by accumulating small accumulations and accumulating uninterrupted accumulations, but there is no distinction in the vehicles themselves, because there is no distinction in the dharmadhatu. This is showing the gate of entry. As the noble Nagarjuna said: "Because there is no distinction in the dharmadhatu, you have no distinction of vehicles. The teaching of three vehicles is for the sake of leading sentient beings." Therefore, since the dharmadhatu is the same, the hearers and so on do not have different dharmadhatus, so the vehicle is only one, because it is to be traversed.

Because it is a vehicle, and because the selflessness is the same. The selflessness of the Hearers and others is the same, so it is only one vehicle, because it is a vehicle by which one travels. Because liberation is the same, it is one vehicle, because it is a vehicle by which one travels. If it is said that teaching the three vehicles is intentional, then in the same way, teaching the one vehicle is also intentional, as some scriptures say. Therefore, if it is thought that teaching the one vehicle is for the sake of remembrance, then this is the same as the Land of Bliss. If so, then "Shariputra, in the future you will become a fully enlightened Buddha named Lotus Light," etc., would contradict the teachings of the White Lotus Sutra, because it would cause harm. However, in order to lead the three vehicles that accord with the disciples to the ultimate meaning, the Blessed One taught the one vehicle with intention, as stated in some scriptures. Therefore, in order to lead the disciples to accord with their different inclinations, this is a skillful means, as stated in the Ten Dharma Sutra and others. Therefore, the Blessed One taught the three vehicles as merely a skillful means that accords with the disciples, and it is not true in reality. If it is understood in this way, it will not be possible to lead disciples with the Mahayana lineage into it, because it will be refuted by reasoning. Therefore, following the statement in some scriptures that "teaching the one vehicle is intentional," the noble Maitreya said in the Ornament of the Sutras: Teaching the one vehicle is intentional, it is said with the intention of leading some disciples, but it is not said in terms of reality, therefore, showing that it is intentional is itself intentional. In the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, it is said: If those who are in the Hearer's vehicle generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, I will not interrupt their roots of virtue. Similarly, in the King of Samadhi Sutra, it is said: All beings will become Buddhas, here there is no vessel of emotion, no sentient beings.
