Then, what fault would there be? The answer to that is that it has been said, "That is not what is desired," and so on. The phrase "as it is said" is from the Root Wisdom. The phrase "if" and so on, is like wood, the wood to be burned, the object of burning, and so on, becomes the action. The agent that burns it is the agent, namely fire. If, in that case, the firewood itself is completely conceived as the fire itself, then the action and the agent would become one. But that is not seen, and the pot and the potter would also become one. Such an assertion is not accepted either. The phrase "by fire and wood" and so on, is to be approached and taken, so it is to be approached and taken, namely the five aggregates of grasping. Based on what is imputed to it, the one who takes and establishes the five aggregates of grasping is called "self," because it is the object of the ego-grasping. Understand that "the order of establishing the self and the aggregates is the explanation of fire and wood"; just as fire and wood are not established as non-different, so too are the self and the aggregates, this is the concluding word. In order to show that, here it is said "how." In order to show the previous view of others, it is said "if" and so on, the phrase "there is no taker" means that there is no agent who takes the aggregates. The phrase "it is only the aggregates" means that what is called "self" is only a collection of the five aggregates. In order to show the answer to that, it is said "that also" and so on, the phrase "is it a thought that the agent exists in the fire?" means that there is no taker, only the aggregates exist, this is a repetition of the previous view. The phrase "it is not" and so on is the answer, the phrase "it is not" means that that view does not exist. Why? The answer to that is, it is said "because there is no action without an agent." Because there is no action without an agent, so if there is no taker, then there are no aggregates either.

it will become a fault. The meaning of this is that because the grasper and the grasped are established by depending on each other, if there is a grasper, there is a grasped, and it is unreasonable for the grasped to exist without depending on the grasper. In order to explain this, it is said, "That is not so," and so on. The so-called "without a cause" means that the grasped depends on the grasper, and if there is no grasper, how can the grasped without a cause exist? It is also said in the scriptures that this is from the Root Wisdom. Among them, "Similarly, the near-taking should be known," and so on. The word "similarly" indicates that, just like the action and the agent just mentioned, this is a designation. The phrase "the near-taking should be known" merely expresses the action of near-taking. It depends on its own agent and the object of action. Therefore, the word near-taking expresses the grasper and the object of action. These graspers and objects of action also depend on each other, and are established like the agent and the action, but not from their own nature. Why is it not established from its own nature? The answer is: in order to eliminate the action and the agent. It is said that we should know that whatever reasoning we use to refute the agent and the action, we should use the same reasoning to refute the grasper and the object of action. Not only are they established by depending on each other, but also, the remaining things should also be known by the agent and the action. It is said that, apart from the action, the agent, the grasper, and the object of action, there are also the producer and the produced, the goer and the gone, the seer and the seen, the characteristic and the characterized, as well as the part and the whole, the quality and the qualified, the measure and the measurable, and so on. All the remaining things should also be analyzed in terms of action and agent, refuting their establishment by their own nature, but rather by depending on each other, which the wise should understand.
