Because it is merely based on the aggregate of the skandhas that it is designated as self, therefore, the mere aggregate of the skandhas does not become the self. In order to explain this in detail, it is said, "How," and so on. Here, there are two types of analogies based on the distinction between external and internal. Regarding this, others say, "By means of vases, etc.," and so on. How is it that one relies on form, etc., to designate a vase? There is no vase that is devoid of form, etc. However, it is merely the collection of form, etc., that is the vase. Similarly, here too, since one relies on the skandhas to designate the self, it is merely the collection of the skandhas that is the self. Therefore, if one says that the reason of uncertainty is not established by vases, etc., then in order to answer that, it is said, "That too does not exist." This means that uncertainty does not exist. Because it is not established that it is merely form, etc. If the skandhas, etc., were merely the collection of form, etc., then at that time, the thought of a vase would arise for all collections of form, etc. Therefore, it is the form, etc., that generates a particular shape, and that is the vase, so it is not uncertain. Refutation and examination are similar. If only the collection of form, etc., is a vase, then since there is no collection whatsoever, it would follow that there is no vase either. If, because there is no collection, the vase itself, which possesses a collection, exists, then at that time, each individual form, etc., would be a vase. Furthermore, whatever is designated in dependence on something is different from that thing, just like something that is transformed from the elements. Since a vase is also designated in dependence on something, how could it not be different? Therefore, the refutation and examination are similar to the self. Regarding this, others, in order to prove that the skandhas and the self are similar to the elements and something transformed from the elements, say, "If," and so on. Spokes, etc., alone are not a chariot. If spokes, etc., alone were to become a chariot, then it would not be designated in dependence on something, like something transformed from the elements, but rather a particular shape, etc.

The car with spokes etc. is a car, but just the collection of spokes etc. is not. Therefore, the car with a special shape is different from the collection of spokes etc., so it is established dependently. In order to combine this example with the meaning, it is said "similarly" etc. Like a car, the form etc. with a special shape is "I", but just the form etc. is not. Therefore, the collection of form etc. with a special shape is different from just the collection, so the name established dependently is reasonable, if you think so. In order to answer this, it is said "That is also non-existent." Asking for the reason, it is said "Why?" In response to this, it is said "Shape" etc. If the difference in shape of colored dharmas is called "I", then, because shape only exists in colored eyes etc., In your view, only colored dharmas can obtain the name "I", and the aggregates of consciousness, feeling, conception, and formation will not become "I", because they have no shape. Therefore, only the form aggregate will become "I", not the five aggregates. In order to explain this, it is said "Why?" etc. In order to further point out the fault when I and grasping are one, it is said "Furthermore" etc. It means that the "I" itself as the grasper and the five aggregates as the grasped cannot be established simultaneously. If so, the fault of action and agent becoming one will occur, that is, if it is admitted that the taker and the grasped are one, then action and agent will also become one. In order to clarify this through explanation, it is said "Here" etc. "Here" refers to the occasion of the grasper and the grasped. If the agent and the action become one, then the agent, that is, the grasper "I", and the action, that is, the aggregates to be grasped, will become one. Become.
