The term 'as it is' means that just as outsiders cannot fully understand the nature of form, etc., and therefore cannot abandon desire, etc., it is the same here. To dispel the doubts of others, it is said, 'If we,' etc. 'Taking the scriptures as valid' means acknowledging our scriptures as valid. 'Not harmed by the logician's valid cognition' means not harmed by the valid cognition stated in treatises on logic, because we only accept the spoken scriptures as valid. Therefore, one should acknowledge, as stated in the scriptures, 'The aggregates are the self,' etc. To clarify this, it is said, 'Also in the scriptures,' etc. 'Similarly here' means also in the case of acknowledging the aggregates as the self. To answer this, it is said, 'Because the teacher,' etc. Because the teacher said, 'The aggregates are the self,' therefore, if you think that the aggregates are the self, then, after restating the previous view, the answer is 'From their aggregates,' etc. The scriptures saying 'Monks,' etc., do not show that the aggregates are the self, but rather to show the negation of a self different from the aggregates, that is, it is said, 'One should truly contemplate these five aggregates of grasping,' therefore, the self that is different from the five aggregates is not seen by them. Therefore, the meaning of the scriptures is only to negate the self that is different from the five aggregates. If the meaning of the scriptures is to negate the self that is different from the aggregates, and not to say that the aggregates are the self, then how is this known? To answer this, it is said, 'Because other sutras say form is not self, etc.' Because in other sutras, the self is negated from the aggregates by saying 'Form is not self,' etc., therefore, it should be understood that the meaning of the scriptures is only to negate the self that is different from the aggregates. This is clarified in the commentary.
