It also means "not seen." In order to explain the second source of the treatise from stating that the aggregates are not self, "Thus" and so on are stated. If the aggregates become self, since the aggregates have birth and death, the self also has birth and death. If one thinks what is wrong with the self having birth and death, then the answer to this is, "If there is birth and death" and so on are stated. Because karma also has no basis, it is said "without," meaning that the basis of karma is the agent, therefore, it has no basis, so karma is also destroyed. The so-called "karma will be separated from the fruit," means that any fruit of karma, the nature of lovable and unlovable, will not be related to the author. Others establish the connection by saying, "If" and so on are stated. The so-called "accumulated by others" is accumulated by Deva-given. The so-called "the other ripened is enjoyed by others" is that offerings enjoy the other ripened. The so-called "what is done is in vain" is that the fruit of the karma done by Deva-given is not experienced. The so-called "will meet with the unmade" is that if the offering does not make (karma) and experiences the fruit, then it will meet with the unmade. It is also said in the treatise that this is from the "Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way." The so-called "If this is a change," etc. means that if this present self is different from the previous self, then at that time the previous self will not exist, completely abandoned, not dependent on it, and become not its cause. The so-called "Thus, the abode changes," means that if this present self is indeed different from the previous self, then because it is different, just as a vase arises and a felt does not perish, when the later self arises, the previous self will also not perish. Because it has not perished, in that way, wherever one is born in gods or humans, etc., whatever was previously perceived by color and shape, etc., will remain there with that appearance, or that previous one has not died.
