The self that is not different from the earth will also become many. Because there are many consciousnesses arising and ceasing in each moment, that is to say, or each eye consciousness, etc., has many arising and ceasing in each moment, therefore the self that is not different from them will also become many. Or one should state the fault as it is reasonable, that is to say, if the aggregates are the self, then because of that, because of the many, those selves will also become many, this treatise states the tenet that the aggregates are the self, but it does not state the tenet that consciousness is the self, so it should only state the tenet that the aggregates are the self. And "I am real, and cling to it" etc., are present in both tenets, so it should be stated to both tenets. In order to show the conclusion of the previous explanation, "Thus" etc. were said. Among them, the aggregates are the self, etc., and "According to whose view, the mind is the self, according to that view" etc., are stating the fault. And "Other faults that will be explained" etc., are "I am real" etc. Here, "this" refers to those who say that consciousness is the self. And "both tenets also" refers to the tenets that say the aggregates are the self and that consciousness is the self. If the self becomes many, what fault will there be? The answer to this is, "World" etc. were said. Because the sutra says "The person is unique," therefore it is not intended to have many selves. In order to show other faults, "I am" etc. were said. In order to show the reason for this, "For form" etc. were said, because the five aggregates that exist in other entities were mentioned. Monks etc., know that "mere name" etc., the later explanation is the meaning of the previous explanation. In this way, the word nirvana refers to the cessation of separate examination, that is, it ceases through separately measuring and analyzing the noble truths such as suffering.

What is the attainment of that? That is called nirvana, because if it exists, the afflictions will cease. It is said in the sutra, "This is just a nominal person," thus it is said that the person is not substantial. In order to further illustrate that the person is not substantial, other sutras will also be cited. As it is said in the sutra, "How," etc., the so-called "for the aggregates of limbs," refers to the wheel, etc. It is said in the sutra, "It is a conventional sentient being," meaning that it is based on the aggregates that sentient beings are nominally established. Therefore, etc., thus through scriptural proof it is shown that "I" is not substantial, and in order to further point out the fault of considering "I" to be substantially existent, it is said in the sutra, "Furthermore," etc. The so-called "because the view of the collection of destructibles has a substantial object," means that if one admits that "I" is not different from the aggregates and consciousness, then "I" is substantial, therefore the view of the collection of destructibles with "I" as its object will not be a perverse view, because it is with a substantial object. Just as the consciousness that arises from blue and yellow, because it arises from substantial blue, etc., is not a perverse view. If it is not a perverse view, what fault will there be? In order to answer this question, it is said in the sutra, "Therefore," etc. The so-called "therefore," is because the view of the collection of destructibles is not a perverse view. The so-called "will the pervasive also not be eliminated?" Here, elimination is of two types: eliminating the entity and eliminating the desire and attachment of the intention that arises from it. For beings who engage in objects with perverse views, there exists the elimination of the pervasive that is characterized by the elimination of the entity, such as the attachment, etc., that arises from the perverse views of permanence, purity, etc. And the elimination of the desire and attachment of the intention that arises from it is a characteristic of the consciousness of blue and yellow, etc., because they do not engage perversely in arising from objects, so they do not eliminate the entity like attachment, etc., but they do eliminate the desire and attachment of the intention that arises from consciousness.
