are four. Among them, aspiration is manifest desire. Effort is diligence. Faith is manifest trust. Pliancy is the fitness of body and mind. These four are established as support, supported, cause, and result, respectively. Among them, aspiration is the support of effort. The supported is effort, because the preliminary to effort is manifest desire. The cause of the support aspiration is faith, because if there is faith in cause and result, one will desire the activity of abiding. The result of the support effort is pliancy, because after initiating diligence, one is free from faults such as discrimination, and joy arises, and from the arising of joy, pliancy, which is the nature of the fitness of body and mind, arises. Here, effort together with cause and result is shown to be the antidote to laziness. Mindfulness, vigilance, attention, and equanimity are the antidotes to the four faults. Among them, mindfulness is the antidote to forgetting the object. Vigilance is the awareness that discerns sinking and excitement when mindfulness is present. Attention is the manifest application of an antidote to abandon sinking and excitement after discerning them. Equanimity is the natural abiding of the mind when sinking and excitement are pacified. Among them, mindfulness is the antidote to forgetting the instructions, because it prevents the instructions from being forgotten. Vigilance is the antidote to sinking and excitement, because it knows sinking and excitement. Attention is the antidote to non-application, because it manifestly applies the antidote to sinking and excitement. Equanimity is the antidote to application, because when the mind naturally abides, the manifest application of the antidote is established as equanimity. This shows meditation. The result is the accomplishment of the qualities of clairvoyance and other supernormal powers. Thus, the three bodhicittas encompass the twelve factors of enlightenment. These three bodhicittas are called the practice of ritual. For example, if a member of the royal family desires kingship, and someone wants to help him and urges him, first

One puts on armor. Then comes entry, which is riding elephants, etc. Then one gathers an army. Then, from the stage of definite emergence, one definitely emerges, that is, one conquers the unfavorable side and obtains kingship. Having thus accomplished one's own benefit, thereafter, with compassion, one cares for all beings in a fitting manner. Similarly, a Bodhisattva, having donned the armor of accomplishing the six perfections, will become one who dons the armor of non-attachment to giving, etc., because at this time one is not pierced by all the arrows that obstruct. Having thus donned the armor, one engages in diligent meditation in every way, and ascends especially to all the Mahayana teachings such as meditative concentration. Then, wishing to obtain the ultimate result, one accumulates merit. Then, for the sake of obtaining the state of Buddhahood, one definitely emerges from the stage of definite emergence. Then, having obtained the unobstructed path called the Vajra-like Samadhi (Vajropama-samadhi), from the unfavorable side, having abandoned all defilements and obscurations of knowledge together with their predispositions, the Bodhisattva attains the state of Buddhahood, manifests the true limit, and obtains the Dharma King. Then, one benefits sentient beings in a fitting manner. Thus, among the practices of armor, entry, accumulation, and definite emergence, the stages of the three types of Bodhicitta are established as the practice of armor. Therefore, the teacher Vasubandhu said in the commentary, "Putting on the great armor is to be done from the first Bodhicitta up to the superior intention." Therefore, in the explanation of the Ten Bhumi Sutra, it is said, "It is the aspiration for armor." The Blessed One also said that when teaching about that which is in accordance with the aspects of liberation, from the first arising of Bodhicitta, one should give alms without being separated from skillful means, and not give alms with signs, etc. This is the teaching of the practice of armor, because there is no other practice of armor other than the practice of giving, etc. This is the teaching of the third Bodhicitta, which is the nature of the path of accumulation. Thus, on the path of accumulation, one is complete with virtues such as faith.
