Whatever sutras are spoken based on the meaning of the completely imputed and dependent origination are provisional meaning; whatever is spoken based on the meaning of the perfectly established is definitive meaning. Now, in order to show that the establishment of the completely imputed is not reasonable according to the wishes of those who speak only of mind, it is said, "The two, the grasped and the grasper," etc. Because there is no entity apart from dependent origination, what does this mean? According to our view, self-nature exists in the perfectly established, so if that self-nature is imputed to things that are made, such as form and mind, then imputation is reasonable. According to your view, the two, the grasped and the grasper, do not exist as real entities apart from dependent origination. Therefore, the grasped and the grasper should not be completely imputed. "These two" refers to the grasped and the grasper. "Enough with elaboration" means that it is said to those who claim to be Mind-Only. "The text itself will be explained" refers to the refutation of arising. In order to refute arising from both. Therefore, it is said, "Therefore, thus," etc. "Arising from both" means from self and other. "Not the nature of reason" means unreasonable. Because this is only a promise, in order to show its reason, it is said, "The faults already stated," etc. Because whatever faults are stated regarding the side of arising from self and the side of arising from other directly fall upon those who assert arising from both, therefore arising from both is unreasonable. In order to show this through commentary, first, the former view of the naked ascetics, refuting arising from both, is shown, saying, "Regarding this," etc. "Regarding this" refers to the situation of refuting arising from both. "Those who speak of two different views" refers to those who say that everything is the nature of everything, and everything is not the nature of everything, which is speaking of two different views, that is, the naked ascetics. In order to show in detail the manner of arising from both, it is said, "Regarding this, the potter's," etc. "Thread" refers to that which is used to make a pot from a lump of clay.

are performed separately. The term "axle" refers to that which causes the wheel to turn. The term "etc." includes the actions of the hands. Therefore, in order to demonstrate arising from oneself, the phrase "for what reason" and so forth is stated. To demonstrate arising from another, the phrase "for what reason potter" and so forth is stated. Having stated that external objects arise from both, in order to demonstrate that internal objects also arise from both, the phrase "those external" and so forth is stated. In order to explain it in detail, the phrase "regarding that" and so forth is stated. The term "life" refers to going from here to the other world. The term "non-life" refers to the senses and so forth. The term "merit and demerit" refers to virtuous and non-virtuous actions. The term "with outflows" refers to afflictions such as desire and so forth. The term "vows" refers to vows of monks and nuns and so forth. The term "etc." includes non-vows and so forth. The remainder is easy to understand. The phrase "it does not harm us" refutes the sole arising from oneself and the sole arising from another. Therefore, in order to show the answer, the phrase "this dispute also" and so forth is stated. The phrase "this also" refers to those who say that it arises from both. In order to show the fault in the position that external objects want to arise from themselves, the phrase "for what reason" and so forth is stated. In order to show the fault in the position that internal objects want to arise from themselves, the phrase "similarly" and so forth is stated. Showing the fault in the position that external objects want to arise from another is, therefore, the phrase "for what reason pot" and so forth is stated. Refuting the position that internal objects want to arise from another is, therefore, the phrase "father and mother and so forth" and so forth is stated. In order to show the conclusion, the phrase "regarding that" and so forth is stated. Regarding that, in the conventional world, the refutation of arising from oneself is that the world also does not accept these as being one, and so forth. In the conventional world, the refutation of arising from another is that the world
