"The statement 'to examine the scriptures' is the meaning of uprightness itself. If that examination lacks the characteristics of sutras of upright and definitive meaning, it cannot be understood. Therefore, in order to show those characteristics, it is said, 'Thus, by scripture,' and so on. Thus, the history of the scriptures should be known! This means that by distinguishing between upright and definitive meaning, the history of the scriptures is understood. 'Which sutra does not have the meaning of explaining that very nature?' This means that in which sutra is explained that which is not the ultimate reality, that is, explaining the aggregates and so on. 'Whatever is understood as that nature by wisdom is said to be of upright meaning.' This means that wherever the meaning of ultimate truth is ascertained through the door of wisdom, that is the meaning of uprightness. 'Know also that the meaning of emptiness is of definitive meaning.' This means that in which sutra emptiness is directly shown, that is the definitive meaning. In short, it should be understood. In order to show it by explanation, 'Which sutra sections,' and so on, are spoken. 'Not directly clarifying' means because form and so on are spoken. In order to easily show how it becomes the cause of entering into no-self-nature, 'How is it,' and so on, are spoken. In order to show how the form shown in the praise composed by the teacher Nagarjuna becomes the cause of entering into no-self-nature. 'The elements are not objects of the eye,' means that the elements with the characteristics of earth, water, fire, and wind, having the nature of being solid, liquid, warm, light, and moving, because they are tangible, they should not be taken by the eye. 'That which arises from them' means the form that arises from the elements. 'How does it become an object of the eye?' means how can it be appropriate for it to be taken by eye consciousness? If the tangible is to be taken by eye consciousness, then the five senses would become meaningless, so it is unreasonable. 'If it is said thus about form,' means if the Bhagavan said that your form arises from the elements. 'Repel the grasping of form' means if form arises from the elements, then at that time, that which is to be taken by the eye

Thus it transforms, which is to dispel the manifest clinging to form. Therefore, if not examined with wisdom, then like an illusion, these delightful forms and other phenomena are all appearances, and one should examine the meaning of emptiness in this way. From the perspective of the sutras, the meaning of emptiness is also taught, as it is said in the sutras, "Impermanent and meaningless," etc. What is meant by "said" is that whatever is impermanent is impermanent. Therefore, from the teachings on impermanence, one should ascertain the meaning of emptiness. In order to also show that nature from the perspective of scriptural authority, it is said, "As it is," etc. What is meant by "definitive meaning," etc., is easy to understand. What is meant by "different letters" is different sounds. What is meant by "same meaning" is that it teaches one meaning of emptiness in the manner shown earlier. What is meant by "cannot be fully proclaimed" is that it is not possible to proclaim the nature of the sutras. What is meant by "if one thinks about one thing" is to think about one thing that has the nature of form, etc. What is meant by "all of them become meditation" is that the meaning of all the sutras becomes meditation, that is, the meaning of emptiness becomes meditation, because the meaning of emptiness is the same everywhere. What is meant by "all the Buddhas teach many dharmas," etc., is that all the many dharmas taught by the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, teach the selflessness of all dharmas, that is, those who are wise in meaning, that is, those who know selflessness. What is meant by "having trained in this place" is to train in this place of selflessness through the gates of hearing, thinking, and meditating. What is meant by "Buddha's teachings are not difficult to find" is that the teachings of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, such as strength and fearlessness, etc., are easily generated. From the perspective of other sutras, the nature of the sutras of provisional and definitive meaning is also shown, as it is said, "Thus," etc. What is meant by "extensive teaching" is also the nature of the sutras of provisional and definitive meaning. Thus, in the sutras, what is the sutra of provisional meaning? It is the sutra from which conventional truth is taught, this is the meaning of provisional.
