Cultivate diligence. Because it will turn into laziness in the diligence of cultivation. Cultivate effort as an antidote to the near afflictions of sinking and agitation. Through tireless diligence, sinking and agitation are pacified. Among them, because the mind's movement is unclear due to being suppressed by dullness and sleep, know that this is mind sinking. The desire for objects previously experienced, which causes the mind to intermittently turn to other things, that is agitation. Pacifying those two is to remember the body of the Buddha, which brings great joy, and to meditate on impermanence, etc. Cultivate joy as an antidote to the near affliction of discouragement. Through skillful diligence, discouragement is pacified. Discouragement is the discouragement that arises through self-deprecation for the sake of special realization. Pacifying it is to think of the idea that even bees, flesh flies, etc., can attain Buddhahood. Cultivate non-cowardice as an antidote to the near affliction of being completely weary due to harm. Being completely weary due to harm is the inability to tolerate the close harassment of flesh flies and mosquitoes, etc. Its antidote is non-cowardice, that is, cultivating patience. Being content with just a little, cultivate non-retreating as an antidote to near afflictions. Being content with just a little is thinking that this antidote is enough, and no others are needed. Forgetting the instructions, cultivate mindfulness as an antidote to near afflictions. Breaking vows, cultivate awareness as an antidote to near afflictions. Breaking vows is to act with awareness in actions such as walking and coming and going, exceeding what has been learned, with regret as a precursor. Abandoning diligence, cultivate conscientiousness as an antidote to near afflictions. Abandoning diligence is the failure to cultivate practices in the direction of virtue, etc., that have been properly initiated, due to the fault of carelessness. The fruit of cultivation is abandoning perversion, entering the truth, and separation from the body, etc. Among them, on the conventional level, through the near placement of mindfulness of the body, cultivating the impurity of the body, thereby generating perversion towards purity.
