Because that kind of consciousness is not the cause of mental consciousness. "Even in dreams" means even in the state of dreaming. "That thing" refers to the cause of seeing forms in the state of dreaming. What is the eye like? It is said to be the cause of realizing the false object of experience, that is, relative to wakefulness, the cause of realizing the form that is the false object of experience. In order for the commentary to explain it, it says, "Therefore," etc. "Such an object" refers to the object experienced in a dream. "Such a consciousness" refers to the consciousness experienced in a dream. "Such" refers to what serves as the basis for the eye consciousness in a dream, which must be acknowledged, otherwise, why would a blind person not generate eye consciousness? "Therefore" means because all three must be acknowledged in a dream. This is equivalent to saying that the answers given by the Madhyamikas to the Mind-Only school are seen to be the same as the commitment of this Mind-Only school, therefore this Mind-Only school is refuted. In order for the commentary to explain it, it says, "Awake," etc. This is a reductio ad absurdum of the Madhyamikas, that is, in the state of wakefulness, all three are empty of inherent existence, because they are objects of perception. Like a dream, this is a statement of the Madhyamikas. The Mind-Only school says that the consciousness of the waking state is empty of meaning, because it is consciousness, like the consciousness of a dream. Similarly, the object of perception in the waking state is of a false nature, because it is an object, like the object of a dream. Similarly, defilement and purification, as subjects, do not exist without the freedom of another, which is to be established. Without a basis, this is the reason. Like a turtle's hair coat, this is the example. Similarly, it can also be explained with the example of a cataract.

That which is called "the consciousness of the aspect of awakening is empty of meaning, because it is consciousness. Like the consciousness of a person with cataracts." etc., in order to establish that consciousness is empty of meaning, whatever answers are given by the Mind-Only proponents, the Madhyamikas see as being the same as their own tenets, and thus refute this debate. For example, as previously shown, the emptiness of meaning of the consciousness of dreams, and the non-establishment of false objects, and the fact that it must be established as other-dependent, and the garment of turtle hair also exists as an imputed thing, so it is not established as non-existent, and the consciousness of cataracts etc., as previously said: "It depends on the mind, both are true." Therefore, the non-existence of all objects is not established, so all answers are only the same as the tenets. Similarly, the faults of scriptural harm etc. are also impossible, and the word "etc." should include the harm of inference. In order to show that there is no scriptural harm, it is said "because of what" etc. "The three existences are only imputed," means that all three realms are only nominal. "There is no object of self-nature," means that from the point of view of self-nature, objects do not exist. "Self-nature has no destruction," means that from the point of view of self-nature, objects do not exist, because self-nature has no destruction. "Imputation" etc., means that for the time being, objects do not exist, however, for that imputation itself, bad logicians perversely think of it as the self-nature of objects, and thus cling to the self-nature of objects. "Without self-nature" means to obstruct objects. "Without consciousness" means to obstruct the consciousness that has the characteristic of other-dependence. "Without alaya" means to obstruct the alaya consciousness. "Without things" means to obstruct the imputation of the nature of grasping and apprehending. "Bad logician children" means that these things etc. of the children who perversely cling to self-nature are imputed. Therefore.
