Like that, this arising is unreasonable. As a cause, it transforms through the way of producing an effect, and therefore it is impossible before the effect arises. If it is promised that there is no arising of an effect, and some cannot be obtained through a cause, then at that time everything will become the cause of everything, but that is not the case. Therefore, since the cause becomes causeless, there is no self-existence established independently of the arising of an effect. Therefore, all causes will become effects, and there is a fault in saying that. The scripture says that this is from the Root Wisdom Treatise. There, too, it is established dependently, but not by self-existence, so it is said. If any object, etc., also depends on that itself, it refers to depending on the consciousness itself. What is depended upon is the ability. Also depending on that itself means depending on consciousness. Now, since both are not established, it refers to ability and consciousness. Depending on what, what will be established, it means depending on ability, will consciousness be established? Or depending on consciousness, will ability be established? What is the object that is established dependently, it refers to what is the nature of the object of consciousness, which is established depending on ability. Therefore, like that, etc., is the conclusion. Like that, it is shown that there is no ability in the future, and now, in order to show that there is no ability in the past either, it is said now, etc. If the extinguished, etc., refers to the ability of the extinguished object, that is, habit, from that ripening, that is, from the complete difference of the arising of the effect, if the knowledge of blue, etc., arises, then from that other ability, that is, from the other ability of blue knowledge, another blue consciousness arises, that is also unreasonable, because it will lead to everything arising from everything. In order to explain that with commentary, it is said if, etc., having been born and ceasing.

The phrase "by the consciousness of being" refers to the present. The phrase "for the sake of the fruit" refers to the sake of generating another blue consciousness. The phrase "what difference in ability is established, the ability of the cessation of consciousness that is matured" refers to the fact that for the sake of generating a subsequent consciousness, whatever difference in ability is established is fully matured. The phrase "from that other ability" refers to the ability of the previous blue consciousness. The phrase "another will arise" means that the blue consciousness that will arise will arise. If one thinks, since both blue consciousnesses are the same, and because they have the same cause, how can another arise from another's ability? Thinking this in mind, it is said, "Why?" In order to show that answer, it is said, "Because of what," and so on. Because of what, in that continuum, are the continuants separately existent? Therefore, from another's ability, another will arise. The meaning of this is as follows: If one is to understand the continuum here, does one understand the continuum as different from the continuants, or not different? For the moment, it is not different, because it does not appear as different. If it is not different, then it is only the continuants, and if those are mutually distinct, then from another's ability, another will arise, and that fault remains, which is the meaning of this. In order to show that by explanation, it is said, "Tanu," and so on. "Tanu" refers to the king, because this term is transmitted by giving conditions, so it speaks of the nature of the continuum. What is that continuum like? So it is said, "When cause and effect are related," which means abiding in the nature of cause and effect. This, like form and sound, and so on, prevents the same continuum for those for whom cause and effect have not been established. The phrase "uninterruptedly, successively, without discontinuity, existing" means that uninterruptedly means not interrupted by another moment. Successively means not simultaneously. Existing without discontinuity means that the continuum is not cut off. So, how is it that it exists successively without discontinuity?
