This is its meaning. Like "thus" and so on, why is it that here, for those without inherent existence, one speaks of actions and agents themselves that are without inherent existence, as well as karma and agents? Just as here, the agent of karma is an emanation, which is empty of inherent existence. Whatever karma is done by the agent who is empty of inherent existence is also empty of essence. For example, just as an illusionist conjures another illusion, so it should be understood. Therefore, how could there be wrong views for the Madhyamikas who speak of non-duality? Not only should one understand the lack of inherent existence through the example of illusion alone, but also through these other examples, one should clearly understand that things are without inherent existence. In order to show this, it is said, "afflictions, karma," and so on. Among these, afflictions are desire and so on, because they afflict the minds of sentient beings. Karma is virtuous karma, non-virtuous karma, and unwavering karma. The agent is the mind and body. The results are the fully ripened result, the result concordant with the cause, and the dominating result, and so on. These afflictions and so on should be understood as being without inherent existence, like the appearance of a city of gandharvas. Therefore, only the Madhyamikas do not accept the inherent existence of things, so there is no fault of falling into views of permanence and annihilation, and this should be understood. Thus, in order to show that having abandoned views of permanence and annihilation, it is reasonable for virtuous and non-virtuous karma and results to be related in emptiness of inherent existence, therefore, it is said, "Therefore, thus," and so on. Among virtuous and non-virtuous karma, virtuous karma is abstaining from killing and so on. Non-virtuous karma is killing and so on. The connection of results is that virtuous karma is connected with desirable results in the happy realms, and non-virtuous karma is connected with undesirable results in the lower realms. "Having ceased, after a long time has passed" means that the results of karmas that are experienced from birth onwards will be experienced at other times. The alaya-consciousness

It is said that even without the complete realization of continuity, non-decay, and attainment, etc., it is still reasonable. That is, even if the continuity of the Alaya-vijñana has ceased, the result is still reasonable. Just as the continuity of the Alaya-vijñana, which is imbued with habit, arises, and from those continuities, a result arises at another time, it is not as others have examined it. Similarly, even without the Dharma of non-decay, the result will arise. It is not as others have examined it. Some others say that the virtuous action disappears immediately after it arises. If it ceases, then it will lead to no result. Therefore, when that action is done, from that action, in the continuum of the doer, something like a debt note will arise, which has the Dharma of non-decay. In this way, like a debt note, it should be understood as non-decaying. The action from which the Dharma of non-decay arises, that action should be understood as like a debt. Just as with a debt note, even if that debt has been used up, the wealth of the owner of the wealth will not disappear, but will only have a collection of wealth with interest. Similarly, even if the action has been exhausted, because there is another Dharma called non-decay, through that Dharma, the result and the doer are related. When the debt note is covered by land or wealth, and has been enjoyed, whether it exists or not afterwards, it no longer has the ability to generate wealth. Similarly, non-decay is also, after experiencing the Vipaka, whether it exists or not, like a used debt note, it no longer has the ability to produce Vipaka. Even if attainment has disappeared, it is still reasonable. Others believe that for good and bad actions, there is a non-corresponding Dharma called attainment. Even if that attainment has disappeared, it is still said to have good and bad actions. To say that a result will arise at another time after that is not so. The word "etc." should include the consciousness of mind that is imbued with the habit of action, and through that consciousness, the result will not arise at another time. If asked, "How is it?" This is saying that if there is no Alaya-vijñana, etc.
