The so-called "preventing arising from investigation" means wanting to prevent arising from investigation. This also cannot be established without reason, which is to say, "it cannot be established without reason." The meaning of this is, if reason has the ability to prevent investigation, then would it become that it has no ability to prevent other-dependence? Master Nagarjuna once said: "Not from self, not from other." If it were not relying on these reasons of *viśeṣa* (विशेष, vi-shesha, distinction) to prevent, then at that time it would be reason. However, because reason has the ability to prevent investigation, it also has the ability to prevent other-dependence. Moreover, the so-called "not from self" and other reasons, are preventing arising from the perspective of the totality of things, not from the perspective of the individual, so how can Master Nagarjuna say that he has prevented the self-nature of investigation? Therefore, those who want to prevent the self-nature of investigation are without reason. Now, in order to welcome the doubts of others, it is said "if so" and so on. If there is no arising, then how can the absence of self-nature be observed? Just like rabbit horns and so on have no arising, so the self-nature cannot be observed. Therefore, because self-nature can be observed, there is arising. In order to give an answer to this, it is said "explanation" and so on. The so-called "image" and other words, should include sound images and so on. The so-called "not relying on assembly also does not appear," is because relying on the assembly of faces and mirrors and so on, the assembly of images and so on can arise. Therefore, relying on assembly is appearance, this is its synonym. Now, without investigation and research, it is expressed based on worldly sayings, not from the perspective of reason, because it has been explained before. The so-called "how" is like how knowledge with the form of an image arises from emptiness. This shows an example of how, even for one's own non-arising, self-nature can be observed. In order to show the meaning, it is said "similarly" and so on. The so-called "similarly," is like that example. The so-called "even if all things are emptiness," is saying

Because birth is not established by reason, phenomena such as consciousness are indeed emptiness. From emptiness, it will be fully born. This means that it will be born from form and so on. Therefore, it is unreasonable for self-nature to arise only from the object. If those who are unborn also appear, then why do things like rabbit horns not appear? This is the same for you. For example, images and so on appear even though they do not have the birth of their own characteristics, but why do things like rabbit horns not appear? However you answer, I will answer in the same way, so what fault is there? In order to show it with commentary, it is said, "From all things," and so on. It exists without being different from cause and effect, which means that it exists in the nature of cause and effect. "All things" refers to form and so on, because space and so on have no things. The establishment of images without self-nature is also what becomes the cause of knowledge. In order to indicate the source of the sutra, it is said, "As it is said," and so on. The image of all things is empty, and it can be seen in a very pure mirror. Similarly, the laws of dependent origination become the object of knowledge. In order to show that it is neither annihilation nor permanence in both truths, it is said, "Therefore," and so on. If things also have self-nature, then if they remain for a long time and then are destroyed, they will become annihilation. Similarly, if the self-nature of things exists at all times, it will become permanent. However, since birth is not established in both aspects, where are the views of permanence and annihilation for those without self-nature? As it is said in the treatise, the treatise here refers to the Root Wisdom. If someone says that there is self-nature, self-nature will never become non-existent at any time, and if you admit that there is self-nature, then that is a permanent view.
