It is the cause of arising together, because they follow each other. Characteristics and bases are also the cause of arising together. Among them, characteristics are birth and so on, and these are the cause of the bases arising together, and the bases are also the cause of these, because they follow each other. Similar dharmas are the equal share cause of similar dharmas, for example, virtuous dharmas are the cause of virtuous dharmas, non-virtuous dharmas are the cause of non-virtuous dharmas, and unspecified dharmas are the cause of unspecified dharmas, and so on. That is, those that arise earlier are the cause of those that arise later. The co-existent cause is the mind and mental factors that have the same basis, for example, the basis of eye consciousness, which is the moment of the eye faculty, is also the cause of feelings and so on that are co-existent with it. Similarly, the basis of consciousness and the dharmas co-existent with it is the moment of the mind faculty, and it should be understood in the same way. Whatever is a co-existent cause is also a cause of arising together. Furthermore, in what sense is it a cause of arising together, and in what sense is it a co-existent cause? Because they are mutual results, they are the cause of arising together, just as blind people rely on each other's strength to walk together on the road. The five aspects of having the same basis, object, aspect, time, and substance are the co-existent cause, just as those blind people similarly engage in the activity of enjoying food and so on. If one is missing, they will not be co-existent, so this is the entity of their cause. The pervasive cause is that the pervasive dharmas of one's own seed, those that arise earlier, are the pervasive cause of the afflicted dharmas. Among them, the pervasive dharmas are the view of the aggregates subject to suffering to be abandoned by the view of suffering, the view of holding to extremes, wrong view, the view of holding views as supreme, and the view of holding ethics and vows as supreme, these five views, and those to be abandoned by the view of suffering.

To be abandoned are ignorance and doubt. There are seven things to be abandoned by seeing suffering, and the wrong view and holding views as supreme to be abandoned by seeing the origin, i.e., two views. Similarly, ignorance and doubt to be abandoned, there are four things to be abandoned by seeing the origin. Thus, having eleven afflictions is pervasive. Afflictions are the common cause, therefore they are separately established from the co-equal cause, because they are also the cause of non-co-equality. The cause of maturation is non-virtuous dharmas and virtuous dharmas with outflows. They belong to the cause of maturation. Among them, having co-emergent causes, etc., except for the agent cause, is the causal condition. Among them, because of the object to be focused on, it is called the objective condition, i.e., how all conditioned and unconditioned dharmas exist as the objective condition? For example, from the eye consciousness and the form that is in accordance with it, up to all the dharmas of mind consciousness. The so-called "mind entering into nirvana without remainder of aggregates" refers to whatever mind whose characteristic is abandoning the aggregates and entering into nirvana, that is called "mind entering into nirvana." That mind entering into samadhi will not become the immediately preceding condition, because after that, the aggregates have ceased, and mind and mental factors will not arise. The so-called "agent cause is the dominant condition" refers to those who separately speak of the agent cause as the dominant condition, among the causal conditions, without mentioning the agent cause. The so-called "what" is the nature of the cause. The so-called "by what" is the effect. Explaining "to produce" refers to abiding in the nature of the seed, i.e., whatever abides in the state of being able to produce the fruit. The so-called "that" refers to the producer. The so-called "its" refers to the fruit. The so-called "from the cause" refers to from the cause of the eye, etc. The so-called "by what as the object" refers to by form, etc. The so-called "cause ceased immediately" etc. refers to whatever ceases and then whatever arises, that is its immediately preceding condition.
