The faults shown in refuting the debate such as "by what are these completely stopped" have not been abandoned, therefore the definition has not been clarified correctly. Thus, in refuting the debate: If things are established for you through valid cognition, please say, how is that valid cognition established for you? If it is thought that through the power of valid cognition, that thing, that is, the object to be measured, is established, then just as valid cognition establishes the object to be measured, by what are the four valid cognitions, namely direct perception, inference, scripture, and approximation, established? If one does not accept other valid cognitions to establish valid cognition, then the vow that "without valid cognition, things will not be established" will be broken. If it is established by other valid cognitions, then it will lead to the fault of infinity. For it, the beginning, middle, and end, establishment does not exist. If it is thought that the valid cognition that establishes the object to be measured by other valid cognitions, and those valid cognitions are established by others, then it will lead to infinity. If it leads to infinity, what is the fault? The answer is that the initial establishment does not exist. Why? Because those valid cognitions are established by valid cognitions different from it, and that valid cognition is also established by others, therefore for this, there is no beginning, so the middle and end exist. Therefore, it is unreasonable for these valid cognitions to be established by other valid cognitions. If they are established not through valid cognition, then the debate ends. Since they themselves are not the same, it is necessary to state the special reason. If some are established through valid cognition and some are not, this is also unreasonable. Because it is necessary to state by what reason some are established through valid cognition and some are not, but this has not been stated. Therefore, this understanding is also unreasonable. To this, some people answer: Here there are two valid cognitions, namely direct perception and inference. Among them, direct perception is of two kinds, namely appearing by accomplishing the function of things, and the function of things appearing. Among them, the first is the flame that appears far away. The second is experiencing the function of fire, such as burning. Among them, inference is determined as valid cognition from itself, that is, relation.

Because it arises from a sign that has a connection. Like this, if there is no fire there, smoke will not exist either. If smoke does not exist, smoke will not be recognized, and smoke cannot be determined either. Therefore, fire cannot be known either. Therefore, inference arising from a sign that has a connection is definitely a valid cognition from itself. The manifest perception of the function of meaning, which is characterized by experiencing burning and so on, is established as valid cognition from itself, because when experiencing the function of meaning, no doubt arises as to whether this is the function of meaning or not. The knowledge of manifest perception that accomplishes the function of meaning arises from two causes: familiarity and unfamiliarity. Among them, whatever manifestation accomplishes the function of meaning, which arises in the continuum with familiarity, is definitely determined as valid cognition from itself, because error and non-error are determined by oneself. For example, just as a gem appraiser determines whether a gem is processed or unprocessed. Whatever manifestation accomplishes the function of meaning, which arises in the continuum of unfamiliarity, even if doubt has already arisen as to whether it is true or not, if later knowledge of the function of meaning arises, the doubt will be eliminated, so validity is determined from another. It will not be endless either, because there is no doubt as to whether the knowledge of the function of meaning is true or not. Therefore, whatever faults are said, such as "if validity is from another," are unreasonable. If there is also doubt about the knowledge of the function of meaning being true or not, like this, there is knowledge of the function of meaning in dreams, and there is also knowledge of the function of meaning in the waking state, therefore, just as in dreams there is no function of meaning but knowledge of the function of meaning arises, so here too, because there is no function of meaning, is it knowledge of the function of meaning? Or is there a function of meaning? Because doubt arises, it is necessary to seek another valid cognition, therefore, the fault of endlessness remains, if you say so, then, it is necessary to answer this, because there is a difference between what is seen in dreams and the function of meaning in the waking state, so what is seen in dreams
