Moreover, Āryadeva also said, "Existing, non-existing, and both existing and non-existing, in any direction, it does not exist. Even for a long time, one cannot express its fault." And also in the *Refutation of Disputes*: "If I had any commitment, this fault would arise. Because I have no commitment, therefore this fault does not exist for me. If it were slightly observed by direct perception, etc., it would either enter or be refuted. There is no fault without that." Thus it was said. When that is the case, since the Madhyamika does not speak of inference established by one's own continuum, at that time, where is the commitment of one's own continuum that external and internal phenomena are not born from self? Do the Samkhyas think it is from the nature of the effect or from the nature of the cause? What will become of that? If it is from the nature of the effect, then it is proving what is already established, and if it is from the nature of the cause, then it is a contradictory meaning, because all things that have arising arise as existing in the nature of the cause. If it is said that there is something that becomes proving what is already established and a contradictory meaning, where do we have such a reason? Therefore, there is no need to strive to avoid the fault of proving what is already established and the meaning of contradiction. Therefore, since there is no fault spoken by others, there is no need for the teacher Buddhapālita to answer it. If it is said that the Madhyamikas do not state the inference of their own continuum because the subject, reason, and example are not established, because for me, establishing the meaning of the commitment to prevent birth, and the inference established for both, although it does not refute the commitment of others, if one states the contradiction that harms the commitment made by others with one's own inference, then one must, in its own right, state the faultless subject, reason, and example, etc. Therefore, since those are not stated and those faults are not abandoned, that is the fault, if it is said, that is not so, why? Because for whatever thing, with whatever thing and together with whatever thing, just as he himself has ascertained, others

Moreover, wanting to generate certainty, it is necessary to show others the reasoning by which one can understand this matter. Therefore, for the time being, it is reasonable to acknowledge that one must accept the proof for the proposition asserted by others. However, this does not become a valid reason for others to understand, because there is no example. Therefore, merely following one's own proposition and acknowledging that one's own proposition can be established is simply acknowledging a position without reason, thus only deceiving oneself and not being able to generate certainty in others. The refutation of this is very clear, namely, any situation where one's own proposition cannot be established. So, what is the need to show harm by inference here? If one says that one must definitely state the fault that contradicts one's own inference, then that is only what was taught by the teacher Buddhapālita. How so? Because things do not arise from themselves, because that arising is meaningless. Here, "that" refers to one's own self-existence. Why? Because the detailed explanation of this briefly stated phrase is, what need is there for birth for self-existence? This phrase shows an example that is widely known to others, possessing the qualities of what is to be established and the reason. Among them, "for self-existence" shows the reason. "What need is there for birth" shows what is to be established. For example, sound is impermanent because it is produced; whatever is produced is seen to be impermanent, like a pot. Sound is also produced, therefore, because it is produced, it is impermanent. Here, by closely associating "produced," the reason is clearly shown. Similarly, here too, things do not arise from themselves, because birth is meaningless for self-existence. This pot, etc., which is present in front, is seen to exist in its own nature without depending on rebirth, and likewise.
