In order to refute the view that asserts particularity, it is mentioned, "If things are by their own nature," and so on. Here, the first half is a restatement of the previous view, and the second half is a response and argument. Here, the thought of stating the previous view is: If things do not have self-nature, then there would be no difference between inferiority, equality, and excellence, which are the remainder that exists at that time. Because they exist. Because it is unreasonable to do otherwise, things are endowed with self-nature. The thought of the respondent is: The various distinctions of inferiority, equality, and excellence, which are shown to be what is to be proven that things are endowed with self-nature, are not established for me, because those who speak of emptiness do not accept such distinctions as being truly valid. Whatever is not established for anything that is to be proven is itself a proof. Or, it is not established for either. Therefore, it is mentioned, "There is no manifest establishment from the cause either." If things are manifestly established from the cause, or through the word "also," from no cause but only from themselves, and their own essence is established, then this distinction will become true by relying solely on it. Because in either case, the previously shown line of reasoning is unreasonable, how is this also established for you? Therefore, it is not established for either. Therefore, how can what is to be proven be proven from this? In order to conclude what was previously briefly shown, this view that is not manifestly established in either way, therefore it is mentioned, "Therefore," and so on. Because, as shown by the words "Just as a dream depends on a place," and so on, what arises in dependence is not truly born in itself, therefore, in dependent arising, where is there self-nature established? In any way, it is non-existent. However, in order to refute the view of self-nature establishment, it is presented that it arises without depending on conditions, that is, admitting the nature of arising solely from itself, there also it is impossible not to have no self-nature, never.
