It is a word called "zhi". The word "also" is used to refute and summarize others. Even if the self-nature of ignorance is not established, in order to show what fault there is, "what" and so on are said. Although it is a general statement, because it is just the right time, it is understood as a special meaning. Therefore, it should be known that the word "what" is a statement of the branch of ignorance. Therefore, the meaning is like this, that is, which of the branches of ignorance, etc., does not depend on what it does itself, in the way of self-nature, self-nature is not established, and the nature of itself is not established, then for other branches such as actions, in what way, how does it produce? In any case, it is impossible, that is the meaning. For what reason is it like this? Therefore, the other shore of the branch of ignorance, the actions that have not produced their own nature and have not been established, are not the cause of producing other branches such as consciousness, etc., meaning that they are not produced directly or indirectly. In order to show that this meaning itself is a worldly reason, "not father, not son" and so on are said. In the world, relying on what to become a father, whoever is a father, only relies on that, not a son. Relying on what to become a son, only relying on that, not a father. If so, then what fault will there be at that time? After doubting like this, in order to show what fault there is, it is "the two are not mutually without". The word "birth" is the remainder, meaning that the two are mutually dependent. If so, what is the fault? In order to show that fault, it is "the two are also not at the same time", that is, at any time, it means that one is not established. This meaning is also to make two metaphors, so "as" is established nearby. With the twelve branches, etc., it is close to summarizing as just ordinary. Here also shows the ultimate secret meaning, otherwise, in the case of two branches being mutually dependent, when refuting the non-establishment of self-nature, how can we fully grasp the dependent origination and closely summarize this? Only these can exist, be born, and

Therefore, it is established that the Buddha spoke according to worldly conventions, not according to the ultimate truth. Now, relying on the summarized aspect of what is said as "existent" and "non-existent," when it is shown that it is impossible to accept the self-nature of two individuals with the words "neither self nor non-self," although it has already been established as the true meaning, in order to establish it again by fully grasping each aspect, therefore, it is said, "Just as dreams rely on objects," and so on. If someone thinks that whatever appears to be happening based on what is relied upon, and is directly experienced, and whatever becomes the object of focus, then those that are not experienced, in what order, are proximately shown to be understood by valid cognition as existent and non-existent, and that alone should be abandoned in any way. If one thinks that no one can deny the things that are established by experience, then it should be said like this: Just as in a dream, relying on objects such as garlands and sandalwood that bring benefit, and illusions and thorns that bring harm, although one is experiencing them in dependence on them, happiness and suffering and their objects do not exist, that is the remainder of "that alone is the truth." Similarly, in the state of actually being awake, whatever appears as the cause, relying on whatever thing, and whatever appears as the result, arising dependently, although both of these have been experienced by conventional valid cognition, they do not exist, that alone is not existent. As it is proclaimed, because the consciousness that awakens from the appearance of a dream does not show any difference at all, how can one be the true meaning, and the other, the awakened consciousness, be the true meaning? This has already been analyzed in great detail elsewhere. Therefore, because all things are non-existent due to their emptiness of self-nature, the distinction between showing existence and non-existence is in accordance with the intention, and this is also established. After this, the inferior and equal, initially shown briefly as conventional
