For the sake of the doctrine, it is said, such as "If one does not exist, many do not exist," and so on. Thus, if one of the seeds, etc., as the proximate cause does not exist, then the many cooperating conditions also do not exist, and the seeds, etc., as the proximate cause alone, cannot produce sprouts, etc., as the fruit. Therefore, things are dependent on the existence of certain things to produce fruit, so those that appear as things, that is, causes, exist by relying on production, not without relying, they exist by relying on each other, not from their own nature, this is its meaning. Therefore, the signless is the causeless, that is, the nature of the cause is emptiness, this is its synonym. Thus it is taught that the nature of producing fruit is called the cause, but that is not naturally established from its own nature, because it is impossible to arise without dependence, and it would fall into the fault of being permanent, and also, the previous cause of the cause would not exist, so the effort to seek it would become meaningless. Therefore, it is not so independent, but like illusion, etc., it is born dependently, therefore, it is not truly existent, so it is established as self-empty. If the things of the nature of cause and effect are self-empty through the reason that has already been explained, then how did the Blessed One declare that arising in dependence on this is the fruit of suffering? In the nature of cause and effect, a thing without nature cannot be the fruit of suffering, if asked. That is also said to be not truly existent, such as "The twelve links of dependent origination," and so on. Conditioned by ignorance, actions arise, conditioned by birth, old age and death arise, thus the twelve links of dependent origination that arise in dependence on this are the fruit of suffering, because they have three kinds of suffering, the fruit of having seven limbs of suffering, the suffering spoken by the Blessed One

That which is said to have fruit is the unborn, which is the remaining meaning of 'suchness'. The reason for establishing this is 'even in one mind' and so on. Thus understood, it is merely the aggregates without self. Manifestly assembled by afflictions and karma, the continuum of the intermediate state, like a lamp, enters the womb. It is said so. By stating only the aggregates as the basis of dependent arising, it is not appropriate to have other distinctions by the very nature of being manifestly assembled by afflictions and karma. The nature of the four non-form aggregates is manifestly desired in the continuum of mind and mental factors. The so-called continuum is not a real entity separate from the succession of moments of mind and mental factors, so the moment itself is not a real entity. Therefore, is dependent arising dependent on one moment of mind, or is it dependent on many moments of mind? If this is examined, then neither is appropriate. If it is established in one mind, then there is the fault of occurring simultaneously, and it should not be the entity of cause and effect, like the left and right horns of a cow. If it depends on a fragment of mind, then there is the same fault. For an existing result, there is also a cause with a result. The reasoning that has already been explained, such as this, is that by relying on the result of the three times, the cause should not be the nature of the cause. This is the intention of refuting it by relying on the order of arising, which has been clearly explained. Or, in order to emphasize that there is no valid cognition to establish dependent arising, 'even in one mind' and so on are said. The intention is this: if the entity of cause and effect is understood by valid cognition, then this dependent arising, which has the nature of a continuum, should also be established. However, the valid cognition that establishes it is not reasonable at all. Thus, if one wants to understand following and reversing, then the one who establishes following is also the direct perception that apprehends another object mixed in one consciousness. If that exists, then it exists.

And, in order to completely cut off the nature of following and ceasing, which has the nature of following and ceasing that is called "if there is not, there is not," it is also not allowing one or many manifestations. Therefore, for the time being, it is not one, because the things that appear as cause and effect are not one, so the consciousnesses that hold them are also not like that, therefore, holding the thing that appears as the cause or holding the thing that appears as the effect, that one neither holds the thing that appears as the effect, nor holds the nature of the thing that appears as the cause. Not to mention understanding with the different nature of effect or cause. Consciousness is because it is the ultimate activity of merely completely cutting off its own nature and its own object. For the same reason, it is not one, because there would be the same fault for pots and cloths, etc. Understanding "this is this" is not understanding following, but rather "if there is this, then there is this." Here, because neither one nor two can understand, there is no understanding of following. If it is thought that after two experiences, due to particularly clinging to what arises in the previous time, one will understand following, that is not right, because the experience enters as it is, and it is only then that the experience enters in that way that it becomes clear. From this, it must also be determined that understanding ceasing does not exist. Therefore, saying that it is not reasonable for one mind, and it is not reasonable for many minds, is not reasonable. For this reason, also in order to show with reason that dependent arising is unborn is another reasonable reason, two verses of the noble one, such as impermanent and non-eternal, were spoken. This is how it is understood, those who have obtained the limbs such as ignorance are considered to be the cause of producing the later fruit, and obtaining their nature also depends on the previous cause, therefore, for ignorance, one also wants the earlier limb as the cause.
