Furthermore, the garland of similes is explained. Like a city of Gandharvas, an illusion, a mirage, a bubble, an image, an emanation, a dream, and a fire wheel, all conditioned things are similar. (Like the meaning of a city of Gandharvas, etc.) Although these arise from their respective causes and conditions, they appear as cities, etc., which are empty of their own nature. Similarly, these objects such as form and feeling also appear as being empty of their own nature of form and feeling, etc., and should be understood as form and feeling, etc., being emptiness itself. Furthermore, if one can understand selflessness with just one simile, then what is the point of gathering many similes? This is not the case, because for those worldly people who are not accustomed to the meaning of selflessness from beginningless samsara, the many similes touch the minds of worldly people, thereby generating certainty about that suchness. As it is said: For a while, the impure aggregates, the coarse objects of manifest perception, although they are always seen, when the mind is not focused, then it is very subtle and profound. This sacred Dharma has no place, how can it be easily understood in the mind if it is not manifest? Thus, in order to easily enter that mind, it is reasonable to show many similes. Furthermore, by arranging many similes, some will become very certain about others. In this regard, with that simile, one easily understands the meaning of it oneself, so it is reasonable to arrange many similes. Alternatively, because the grasping of things is different, the similes are different. For those who grasp a definite place and time, it is not reasonable to grasp a definite place and time for what does not exist. In this regard, the city of Gandharvas is used as an example. For those who grasp the freedom of others, it is not the freedom of other causes for what does not exist. In this regard, illusion is used as an example. For those who grasp change, there is no change for what does not exist. In this regard, a mirage is used as an example. That is also a change without distinction. For those who grasp essence, because there is no essence, it does not exist. In this regard, a bubble is used as an example. For those who grasp this and that, what does not exist

It is said that it does not arise from other and other, and a water bubble is used as an example for this. Regarding holding onto all appearances, it is said that without it, there would be no all appearances, and an emanation is used as an example for this. Regarding holding onto various forms, it is said that without it, there would be no various forms, and a dream is used as an example for this. Regarding holding onto entering, it is said that it does not depend on entering into non-existent sprouts, etc., and a fire wheel is used as an example for this. Because the seed of its entering is not a torch. Thus, after establishing the nature of how dependent arising abides with the sixty-four verses that have just passed, the other two verses explain that this meaning is the non-perverted dependent arising spoken by the Thus-Gone One, so it should be established in close connection with it. If this is the case, those who listen well will develop great certainty about this meaning, namely: Since all things are empty of inherent existence, this dependent arising, the Unequaled Thus-Gone One, has shown all phenomena. Like Gandharva cities and so on, in order to show that formations are not established by their own nature, it is said that these are dependent arising. The term "Unequaled" means that even if one were to create in one world system, there would be no Thus-Gone One similar to it in another world system. Alternatively, if one were to say, "Shakyamuni Buddha is Gautama," these disputes would arise, because the word Thus-Gone One is established in reliance on the qualities that show things as they truly are, and this is also commonly accomplished by all Buddhas, so all Thus-Gone Ones are said to be Unequaled. The rest has already been explained. That is to say, the meaning of the non-inherent existence of these Gandharva cities and so on, and the meaning of dependent arising, are said to be shown in an excellent way, so it is said: This alone is temporarily the ultimate truth. Because all clinging to things is not the meaning of reality, this "temporary" must be grasped, it is for the sake of the Dharma that is approximately established.
