The marked person becomes the agent. By what is it known? That is the agent of this. What is known? That is the action of this. It is unreasonable for an agent to exist without an agent and action. Therefore, because the agent exists, so do the knowable and the knower. It is said: If the knower exists, then the knowable and the known exist. Because as long as the knowable and the known do not exist, because they are separated from action and agent, in order to establish that the agent itself does not exist, it is said: Because the knowable and the knower do not exist. Therefore, the knower itself does not exist. Thus, because the knower does not exist, it is established that the knowable and the known do not exist. Here it is said: The outer and inner sources of birth exist. In order to show that those are impermanent, the Blessed One said: All conditioned phenomena are impermanent. If there are also no sources of birth of disease and external nature, then what does it matter if everything becomes impermanent? Therefore, because impermanence is shown, are all things established? It is said: The Blessed One said: All impermanence is a little, impermanence is not there or permanent, if things exist, then permanence and, impermanence become what. What does the Blessed One mean by saying "all impermanence"? That is not seeing the self-nature of the destroyed things, but not seeing the nature of things, because not seeing the nature of all things, so relying on clarifying that there is no meaning, what the Blessed One said is to prevent the inverted understanding of self-nature. In the ultimate truth, if analyzed, there is no impermanence at all. It is also permanent. It is thought that neither of these two is established in the ultimate truth. Why is it said again that neither of these two is established? It is said: Because if things exist, they will become permanent or impermanent, where are things? Just like the reason mentioned earlier, because it is established that things do not exist, where are things? The meaning of things does not exist. For those who have become non-existent things, permanence or not

Where is permanence? Therefore, in order to clarify that all phenomena are without essence, it is necessary to rely on these teachings to clarify the absence of inherent existence. That is to say, these words do not establish inherent existence in all circumstances. In any case, because phenomena do not exist, it is impossible for the inverted perceptions of permanence and impermanence to arise. Similarly, the inversions of beauty and ugliness cannot arise because phenomena are without inherent existence. Because these do not exist, the attachment, hatred, and ignorance that are the causes of the inversions of beauty and ugliness are also unreasonable. To prove this, it is said: The inversions of beauty and ugliness are attachment, hatred, and ignorance born of conditions. Therefore, by nature, attachment, hatred, and ignorance do not exist. What is called beauty is the inversion that accords with the mind, which is ugliness. Inversion is permanence, selflessness, and purity. Attachment arises from beauty, hatred arises from ugliness, and ignorance arises from inversion. If phenomena had inherent existence, then attachment to beauty, etc., or attachment to permanence, etc., would give rise to attachment, etc. Because phenomena are without inherent existence, there is no beauty, etc., and therefore, the attachment, hatred, and ignorance that are their causes do not exist. Not only are phenomena without inherent existence, but beauty, etc., are also impossible, so attachment, etc., are unreasonable. Similarly, to prove that beauty, etc., are impossible, it is said: Because of that, there is attachment; because of that, there is hatred; because of that, there is ignorance. Therefore, it is born of discrimination, and discrimination does not exist either. Here, what is called beauty does not exist by its own nature. What is the reason? Because for any object that has color, shape, youthfulness, etc., some who have attachment consider it very pleasing and call it beauty, while some who have hatred call it ugliness. For example, regarding the appearance of two wives, the wives may have hatred, like this.

Wives become hateful towards a husband who is very attached only to himself. Because his nature is not fully understood, some become confused about him. It is impossible for one thing to produce contradictory effects on each other in an instant. Therefore, it is impossible for one thing to have three natures, but their differences can be distinguished by conceptual thought. Or, if one thinks like this: if three things do not become one, even so, there is still a conceptual thought about it. Therefore, because of its existence, greed and so on, which arise from it, will occur. It is said: Conceptual thought is also not truly existent. Because for phenomena produced by perversion, there cannot be a true nature, and also because it is interdependent arising, conceptual thought is also not truly existent. If it does not exist, then greed and so on, which arise from it, also do not exist, and this is established. Like this, conceptual thought is also not truly existent. Because of what? If there is no object of thought, then what is conceptual thought? If it does not exist, where is conceptual thought? Therefore, because the object of thought is produced by causes and conditions, it is empty, and conceptual thought is also like that. If there is a little something to be conceptually thought, then conceptual thought that thinks about it arises, and that thing is also interdependent arising, so its nature is empty. Therefore, if there is no object of conceptual thought for it, there is no conceptual thought. Emptiness, conceptual thought is also. If the nature of what can be conceptually thought is empty, because the nature of anything cannot be determined, therefore one will not completely cling to the object of conceptual thought and conceptual thought, therefore one will realize Suchness. From this, by realizing Suchness, there is no ignorance arising from the four perversions. Without it, actions will not arise. Likewise, the remaining ones (consciousness, name and form, six entrances, contact, feeling, craving, grasping, existence, birth, old age and death) will also not arise. Seeing Suchness is non-perverted, because seeing Suchness is contrary to perversion, therefore one will definitely abandon perversions. Abandoning perversions, one will abandon ignorance arising from perversions. Abandoning ignorance, actions conditioned by ignorance will cease, and now because old age and death etc. conditioned by birth have ceased, everything will cease. Again, how does ignorance cease?
