If it is said that the form aggregate arises dependent on the four great elements, then the form aggregate alone would obtain four aspects. It is not proper for one thing to rely on four self-natures that are mutually distinct in characteristics. Therefore, form should be accepted as having four aspects, or, if one conceives of the elements as the object of reliance of a single aggregate, then one should also accept the great elements as being one. To prove that these also do not exist, it is said: Four are not present in one, and four are not one, so how can form be established by taking the four great elements as its cause? If form were to rely on the four great elements that already exist, then, at that time, even one form would become four, because the dependent is related to the distinction of the support. Since that is also not the case, how can form be established by taking the four great elements as its cause? Or, if the form that is relied upon is not in accordance with the different supports, then let those that have become supports follow after one dependent. Those are also impossible. Therefore, like an illusionary person, things that are mutually untrue will certainly lose the very existence of these things, that is to say, how can form be established by taking the four great elements as its cause? Here someone says: Form is existent, because it is being apprehended. Here, the eye consciousness apprehends by arising in the aspect of blue. If there were no blue there, then the apprehension of it would not arise. Since apprehension is existent, therefore form is existent. In response to this, it is said: If the apprehension of it exists, then form exists, but the apprehension of it is impossible. Therefore, since there is absolutely no apprehension, the statement "how is form?" is related to this. The fact that these are not apprehended at all should also be elaborated upon. Here someone says: The apprehension of form is existent. What is the reason? If form were not apprehended, then the thought "this is form" would not arise, and since this thought is existent, it should be known that, by that reason, apprehension is existent. The reply: If it is by reason, then that reason is also non-existent, because it arises from cause and condition, therefore it is non-existent. Furthermore, if form exists, then the form's

It is not unreasonable. If these are so, then the form of form that exists at that time can give rise to mind, then it is permissible for form to exist. If there is no mind of form, how can it become a sign of the existence of form? It is said like this. Even if it exists, it is unreasonable if there is no sign, because that itself is extremely non-attached. From the sign, that sign is also non-existent, because it is born from cause and condition. Even if it exists, that sign cannot be without. This means that it eliminates the opponent's view of admitting the existence of form from the sign. Here it is said that it is unreasonable to say that it is extremely non-attached, because it is clinging to form. Here it is said, what is used to cling to form again? With the mind. Say, how does the mind cling to form? It arises in its image. Say, these are unreasonable, what is the reason? For what reason? If that mind clings to form, then it will cling to its own nature. Because it is born from conditions, it is not existent, and how can it cling to the real formless? Here, if you cling to the nature of things, then you will first see your own essence. For example, like the heat of fire, from having that heat, you can also closely observe other essences. Like water. If the mind becomes the nature of clinging, then it will only temporarily approach and observe its own nature of clinging, and observation is not, because it is contrary to entering the self, and the fault of the action and the actor becoming one, and the unreasonableness of the observer without observation. When the mind cannot cling to its own nature like this, how does the mind cling to form here? From an intellectual point of view, because it does not cling to its own nature, it does not cling to form, just like wood and so on. In addition, this mind is not inherently existent because it is dependently originated. Because it is dependently originated, how can it cling to form that is not inherently existent? Therefore, there is no clinging to form. There is no clinging like this, for what reason? As the mind born of form said, it does not cling from moment to moment. Past and future
