If it is not so, then at that time the suffering or unpleasantness produced by karma will not change. Because the deeds of virtue and non-virtue also have suffering and unpleasantness, therefore, whatever these are, they are only conceptualizations. Moreover, this has no nature of karma, but only a slight conceptualization, therefore, the Blessed One, the Thus-Gone One, follows those conditioned beings whose behaviors are extremely different. Since afflictions and antidotes that accord with afflictions contradict each other, therefore, the words spoken also abide without contradicting the Dharma nature. Like this, the words saying "karma exists" do not contradict the words saying "karma does not exist," and the words saying "does not exist" do not contradict the words saying "exists." Likewise, both statements also contradict each other. All these words are for the sake of the means of entering the emptiness of karma, and are spoken to prove that they do not contradict the Dharma nature: Saying "exists" means saying "exists and does not exist," and saying "does not exist" and "exists" also exists. The intention of the Buddhas is not easy to understand. Because one cannot grasp one with certainty, worldly people correctly see that karma exists by its own nature, and cling to existence, whatever it is, is false. Because they realize that phenomena such as rainbow-like cities do not exist, they develop wrong views, and some tend to fall into the great hell, and thus become full of great sins. In order to reverse those views that consider non-existence, it is said that karma exists. The Blessed One said that the ripening of karma exists. Whatever it is, it is only the phenomena such as rainbow-like cities that are imagined by children, which are kept in mind. Moreover, regarding karma and result, they cling to "these are true," and because of clinging, they cannot be liberated from samsara. Therefore, remembering the absence of self-nature, he said: For whom there is no karma and no ripening of karma, that is the lineage of the noble ones, and so on. Both are kept in mind, and in some cases, there is both existence and non-existence. Therefore, according to the reasons mentioned above, the truth is

If distinctions are not made, it is difficult to understand the intentions of the Buddhas. Here, some words are used following the meaning, and some are used following the intention. Among them, those used following the meaning are of definitive meaning, because they are not intentional, so the meaning exists as it is spoken. For example, all phenomena are without inherent existence. Also, as it is said, when examined by reason and scripture, it is only so, and not otherwise. Whatever is used following the intention is a question of meaning, that is, with intention. For example, does form exist? Does feeling exist? It is certain that these words and so on are spoken with a slight consideration of the difference in meaning in mind, because they do not correspond to the meaning as heard. The nature of things, whether the collection of causes and conditions or individually, whatever nature does not arise in all things, is therefore emptiness. Existence does not arise because it exists, non-existence does not arise because it does not exist, and because the dharmas are not in harmony, it is neither existent nor non-existent. Because there is no birth, there is no abiding or cessation. And so on, and, monks, these are the only ultimate truths, that is, the peaceful dharma, nirvana. All conditioned phenomena are false and deceptive, like form being like a solidified bubble, feeling being like a bubble on water, and so on. These scriptures also show that form and feeling and so on cannot abide in existence itself. Therefore, such words and so on, because they do not correspond to the meaning as heard, are certainly intentional, just like words that clarify the absence of inherent existence, these are not words that are in accordance with the meaning. However, it should be said that they are spoken with a slight consideration of the nature of the meaning in mind. Thus, these two exist separately, and it should be considered here whether these words about existence are as literal as they sound, or whether they are with intention. If these words about existence are as literal as they sound, then at that time a very unreasonable birth will occur, and because it does not exist, it is only seen, it is false and discontinuous.
