I say that gardens and so on are also without dependent arising. Therefore, this example cannot establish emptiness, because there are grass and trees and so on there. In response to this, it can be said: Whatever houses and gardens and so on that can be pointed out are not dependently arisen. Just as houses and gardens and so on are, grass and trees and so on will also not become dependently arisen. Therefore, houses and so on are also because they can be pointed out. Just like grass and trees and so on, it is reasonable for them to be dependently arisen. Furthermore, when the Thus-Gone One shows a thousand emanations in the sky, how can one think that there are grass and trees and so on at that time? Therefore, whatever can be pointed out is the very dependent arising that can be pointed out. Regarding this, some worldly people think that some dependently arisen things are of a true nature, and some think that they are of an untrue nature. Among them, Gandharva cities, illusions, mirages, emanations, water moons, fire wheels, reflections, and appearances and so on are considered to be untrue appearances of dependent arising. Therefore, it is reasonable to reverse the attachment to true appearances of those who want to appear as true in this way. Furthermore, if the other party wants to eliminate the faults mentioned, just as grass and trees and so on are devoid of their own nature and appear as elephants and so on, similarly, consciousness and so on are also devoid of the nature of consciousness and so on and appear as consciousness and so on. For elephants and so on that are devoid of conceptualization, just as grass and trees and so on exist, elephants and so on also do not exist. Similarly, for consciousness and so on, because some part of it is dependently arisen, it exists like grass and trees and so on, and because the nature of imputation on the essence of dependently arisen consciousness is also being eliminated, it will be obtained that the nature of things is established. Therefore, this will become a statement that is in accordance with the Mind-Only school, and for the Middle Way

It is not the case that the statement is in accordance with what is said. Or one should not commit to following the dream, because at that time, as far as the argument of dependent origination is concerned, there is no disagreement with the proponents of consciousness-only; and also, as far as establishing that things are without inherent existence, since it has been understood as powerless, the fault spoken by others has been eliminated. If asked: Is that so? This kind of explanation is not valid, because with the reasoning stated in this way, just like a city of gandharvas, because it is dependently originated, therefore things are without inherent existence, and staying here, one should undoubtedly commit to these, as it is said: Actions are like a city of gandharvas. Why? Because if they had inherent existence, these would not become dependently originated, and dependent origination also exists. Because of what? Action is the cause of affliction, affliction is the cause of formation, formation is the cause of consciousness, all three are empty of essence. Among them, due to ignorance there is formation, therefore action is the cause of affliction, that is, with affliction as the cause. Affliction is the cause of formation, formation is the nature of consciousness, etc., those consciousness, etc., are the nature of the action and affliction of formation, that is, produced by ignorance and formation. Those also here, with the state of the six sense bases that complete the formation, become the cause of obtaining a body, that is, holding separate bodies. That body is also just like formation, only the cause of action and affliction. Therefore, even with one, it is approximately indicated as the body that is the cause of action. From that, those actions and its result, the body, these three are also only dependent origination. Therefore, just like a city of gandharvas, these three are also empty of inherent existence. Here it is said: Action exists, because there is its agent. Here, the agent of action is approximately shown, that is, the one who follows ignorance.
