This (text) also speaks of existence, but it is unreasonable to say that it abides in the non-existent sky flower. Therefore, just as conditioned and unconditioned phenomena are, all phenomena cannot exist without being. The Blessed One also spoke of the nature of karma, that is, "Monks, the ripening of karma that is entirely black is also entirely black, the ripening of karma that is entirely white is also entirely white, the guides of the guides." In this statement, whatever the nature of karma is, its own self is the fruit of the nature of karma. Even if there is no karma, one cannot definitively say its cause and effect, therefore, it can be considered that karma exists, and all things are accomplished by it. The Blessed One also spoke of sentient beings' own karma, that is, "Sentient beings' own karma, karma is giving, practicing giving." In this statement, when the body is destroyed, wealth and grain, etc., are left behind, and karma follows to the next life, therefore, whatever one's own happiness is, is one's own karma. Therefore, his karma exists, and sentient beings also exist, so things are not without self-nature. The Thus Come One also said that karma will not be destroyed, that is, "The karmas of embodied beings, even for hundreds of kalpas, will not be exhausted, once assembled, when the time is ripe, the fruit will surely ripen." etc., if there is no karma, there would be no saying of "will not be exhausted." Therefore, karma exists, and because karma exists, things are with self-nature. Here it is said that this argument does not harm the selflessness of things, why? Because it has already been determined before that arguments like this are spoken according to worldly conventions. These should also be admitted as not being exhausted, why? Because the Blessed One said: "Karma is without self-nature, the unborn will not be exhausted, from this there is no self-grasping, the grasping that arises from this is also conceptual thought, for it, there are impermanence and union and conditioned phenomena." Therefore, the Blessed One said that karma is also impermanent, whatever is impermanent

it would be said to be without inherent existence. Because the essence is immutable. Furthermore, if the Blessed One spoke of karma as existing, considering it to have inherent existence, then he would not speak of karma as being impermanent, because impermanence and inherent existence are contradictory. The Blessed One also said that actions arise from ignorance, and it is not reasonable for birth to depend on something that has inherent existence. Therefore, in order to prove that the Blessed One's teachings clearly state that karma is without inherent existence, he said, "All actions are said to be without inherent existence." Because it is only without inherent existence, it is unborn; and because it is unborn, the Blessed One said that it is indestructible. If someone does not want statements such as "actions are not wasted," then they should not accept it as a compounded phenomenon, because these are contradictory. Because, in this way, karma is not born from itself, therefore it is without inherent existence. What are these karmas? These are: consciousness, name, form, the six sense sources, contact, and feeling, which are the five branches that fully enter, and are the reason why worldly people mistakenly believe in self, therefore they will grasp this as self. That which is called self-grasping is also produced by karma without inherent existence, so it should be clearly understood as being without inherent existence. Or someone might think: the five branches such as consciousness are without inherent existence, because they are produced by karma without inherent existence, even if it can be considered in this way, then whatever clings to self, which has the characteristic of self-grasping, is also produced by karma without inherent existence, so will it become endowed with inherent existence? These are also not the case. Why? Because, the grasping that is produced by it is also from conceptual thought. Whatever self-grasping is produced by this fabrication of self, is also produced by conceptual thought that has the characteristic of irrational attention, so it is only without inherent existence, and thus it is established. Without a doubt, it should be acknowledged in this way: like this, karma is self-
