The differences in the measure of the earth, etc., because those differences are holding, time is indeed existent, if you say so. I say: If years, etc., are indeed existent, and it depends on the holding of time that possesses the measure of years, etc., then it does not hold the permanent years, etc., that are different from moments, etc. Or if you think like this, for a while, if moments exist, because of holding them, then those assembled natures, such as an instant, etc., will occur, if you say so. I say: Where is the assembly for moments that have no dwelling? Where are instants, etc., held? And if moments also exist, how can instants, etc., be established? Because that moment also has a beginning, middle, and end, and for those beginnings, middles, and ends, there are also beginnings, middles, and ends. Because there is no dwelling, if moments also do not exist, how can instants, etc., assembled from moments be accomplished? It is impossible to establish moments by inferring from the assembly of the nature of mind, because the moment of mind is also completely conceptualized, and because it itself has no dwelling, therefore there is no time. If there is no time, where are the three times? Not only does the mere absence of dwelling cause the three times to not exist, but also because they are established from each other, the three times do not exist. Like this, the present is past from the past. The present is future from the future. Because it abides, it is called the present, like that, it is established from mutual dependence, and because the three times are established from mutual dependence, it is established that it is not established, so it is said. Therefore, the three times also do not exist. Like this, the three times also do not exist, because of confusion. The future time itself comes to the present, and is called the present, and entering the past, it is called the past. Because it is established as the three times for one itself, it is confusion. Or because the three times are not existent because they are established from mutual dependence, the past does not exist without depending on the present and the future. If the past also has the present and the future, then it is reasonable to depend on it, but the past is non-existent like the son of a barren woman, just as the non-existent son of a barren woman does not depend. Whenever the past has the present and the future, then, because the past has the present, like the nature of the past itself,

It will become the past. Likewise, for the past and the future, one should also contemplate the past and the present. Like this, the past, future, and present are each confused in the three times, and because of the confusion, there are no three times. Also, as follows: Those three times, because they are not established in themselves, therefore, the opponent thinks that moments, etc., can clearly show time. There is slightly a time that is different from moments, etc., but that is also not able to clearly show, because the rabbit's horn is not established in itself, so no one can clearly show it. Therefore, time is not established in its essence. If there is no time, then where are its three? So it is said, there are no three times. Furthermore, you posit the three times in order to establish things, but that time is not established without relying on things, because it is established by relying on things themselves. And that thing has also been established as not existing before. The three times, because there is no thing, do not exist. If those three times do not exist, then how are they called the three times? The answer is: the three times are merely imputed, not true, meaning they are merely fabricated. There are no three times, and it is established that there is also no thing that is the reason for it. Here it is said: things exist, and that is the nature of conditioned phenomena, because it has its characteristics. For things that do not exist, there are no characteristics, like the son of a barren woman. Things have the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, namely arising, abiding, and ceasing, therefore, because there are characteristics, there are things of the nature of conditioned phenomena. The answer is: if it has the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, then there is the nature of conditioned phenomena, in order to show that it is not existence, it is said: the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, arising and abiding and ceasing, these three also do not exist. Because from this non-conditioned, there is slightly no unconditioned. It indicates that, so it is a characteristic, because it is known through the aggregation of causes and conditions, what arises from the aggregation is conditioned phenomena, conditioned phenomena and characteristics are the characteristics of conditioned phenomena. What is that? It is arising, abiding, and ceasing.
