How is it understood? It is understood from mutual opposition. Because of inversion, there is mutual opposition, that is, obtaining transformation. If birth and destruction existed by their own nature, then these, by acting on each other, would not change, because from birth, something other than birth does not arise, and without birth, there is no destruction. Even at the time of birth, destruction, which is contrary to the time of birth, is not reasonable. And without destruction, there is no birth. And at the time of destruction, birth, which is contrary to it, is not permissible. And obtaining birth from each other at the same time is contradictory. Because they do not exist mutually, these are clear, therefore they will become mutually opposed. Birth is inverted because it is separate from the self-nature of birth. Or it should be said that it does not arise without depending on cessation. The inversion of birth is because it is not established by its own nature and depends on cessation. Likewise, cessation is also spoken of in this way. Whatever these mutually opposed things are, they are established by acting on each other. Therefore, whatever is seen that is not established by its own nature, it should be known that this is worldly inversion. Whatever those things are, therefore, birth and destruction are empty. When those are emptiness, from showing birth and destruction, one will become nirvana, therefore it is not appropriate to show the path of nirvana that is closely shown. In order for children to understand, following what they see, it should be known that the Bhagavan spoke of birth and destruction. How is it said? By knowing birth, one knows destruction. By knowing destruction, one knows impermanence. By knowing how to enter impermanence, one will also understand the Dharma. Here it is said: If there is no birth and no cessation, then what ceases and attains nirvana? If there is no birth and destruction, then at that time there is no suffering, and the five aggregates of grasping arise, and because of impermanence, there is suffering, and from that cessation, nirvana is attained. When there is no birth and no cessation, and therefore no suffering, then what ceases and attains nirvana? In this way, there is also nirvana from the cessation of suffering, therefore birth and destruction exist. The answer is: There is no fault in this, because cessation

Furthermore, nirvana is not something that is nominally designated; it is the very absence of suffering, the nature of being unborn and unceasing. What nature is liberation? It must be acknowledged in this way. Otherwise, if nirvana arises from cessation, or if, according to another view, it is permanent, then neither things nor non-things are suitable as nirvana. If one does not accept that suffering is by nature unborn and unceasing, and if one fully understands nirvana as liberation from the stream of suffering's nature, then, because it is the nature of the cessation of the stream of suffering, nirvana would become annihilation. Nirvana becoming annihilation is unreasonable, as it would lead to the view of permanence, and a nirvana of annihilation arising from non-inherent existence would become inverted, because nirvana is not inverted. The nature of the cessation of the stream of suffering is not suitable as nirvana. Alternatively, if one wishes to completely avoid these faults and accepts another view, then, because of the very nature of suffering not ceasing, the Tirthikas (non-Buddhists) consider that nirvana would become inherent existence, and the permanent nature of suffering is not suitable to become nirvana, because it is shown to be the characteristic of the exhaustion of suffering. At any time, since things and non-things are not reasonable in this way, therefore, that which by nature does not arise or cease from suffering is what is reasonably called liberation. Here it is said that the nature of liberation from suffering is not nirvana, because if it were so, then the nature of liberation from suffering would be nothing, and the term nirvana would become nothing, and nothing is not suitable to become nirvana, it is to be attained by the truth of the path. Just as the place of the withered lotus after arising and ceasing, that which has become something other than suffering is called cessation. If it is not something other, the establishment of the four truths would not occur, therefore cessation is not the permanent nature of suffering, nor is it the nature of liberation from suffering, because it has become something other than suffering. Here it is said, if
