By completely accomplishing it as the cause of growing seedlings, it is said that the cause has been given and ceased. Similarly, from seedlings and so on up to the final stage of flowers, all of these gradually complete the fruit that is obtained from their own cause and is in accordance with the seed. That fruit also arises closely from the seed itself as the cause. If the continuity of seeds and seedlings, etc., does not have the power to produce fruit, then in the end, fruit of the same kind will not arise. Therefore, the fruit that is ultimately arising is determined to have the cause of the seed. As it is said: Because continuity arises from the seed, and also fruit arises from continuity, therefore the seed is the preceding fruit, neither permanent nor annihilated. Thus it is taught. Therefore, the seed is understood to be the cause of the continuity of seedlings and so on, which is capable of producing fruit, and thus ceases. If the continuity of seedlings and so on does not exist, then at that time it will be regarded as annihilation. Or, even if seedlings and so on exist, but if the seed remains in its own nature, then this will be regarded as permanent. But that is not the case. Therefore, since there is continuity, and the moments of the cause of continuity also give the cause for the sake of the fruit, and also since it does not remain in its own nature, there is no fault of falling into permanence and annihilation. Here, the teacher also points out the fault: As before, this is also not established, and there will also be the fault of falling into annihilation. Here, it is said like this: In order to avoid the fault of permanence and annihilation, this is not established as before. If it is thought like this, then how can the continuity of cause and effect arise in existence itself? The continuity of cause and effect is impossible, which has been explained before: If it is a fruit, then it has a fruit; if it is not there, then it is the same as without a cause. Existence and non-existence are also contradictory, and it is not reasonable in the three times. Ignorance and action do not exist, then it will not arise; without it, action will not arise; these are mutually causal, but they are also not established by nature. Any, anything that is not established by its own nature, how does it produce other things? Therefore, the things that are established by other things, other conditions are not the producers. Therefore, cause and effect.

If the fruit has not yet arisen, where is the cause to bestow? Because the cause has ceased and does not arise again, it is not reasonable to infer that the continuity of the cause is severed. If one also asserts that things exist in this way, then one falls into the views of permanence and annihilation. Here it is said: If one does not accept permanence and annihilation because one falls into the views of permanence and annihilation, then in this way, there is no arising and ceasing from things. If there is no arising and ceasing, then the path to nirvana taught by the Blessed One, who taught that these things arise and perish, is not reasonable. "Impermanent and combined things have the nature of arising and ceasing. Having arisen, they cease; their pacification is bliss." Therefore, showing that emptiness, in which there is no cessation, arising, and ceasing, is not suitable as the path to nirvana. Therefore, it is said: "Because of showing arising and ceasing, the path to nirvana is not shown; because of emptiness." Or, the meaning here is different. If one thinks like this: Because things are not truly existent, there is no arising and ceasing, then the fault that the path to nirvana cannot be shown does not exist. Because it is reasonable to show that arising and ceasing are not truly existent, and because nirvana can be attained from showing arising and ceasing, the path to nirvana taught by the Blessed One is not established in this way. Therefore, it is said: "Because of showing arising and ceasing, the path to nirvana is not shown." Again, why is it said that there is no liberation from showing arising and ceasing? To show that the path to nirvana is also not reasonable, it is said: "Because of emptiness." If arising and ceasing are empty, how can showing them become the path to nirvana? Again, how is it that arising and ceasing, which are obvious to all beings, are empty? How is it that not clinging to obvious arising and ceasing is also emptiness? To show this, it is said: "These are mutually contradictory; seeing is caused by perversion; the truth is that arising and ceasing are because of emptiness." Even though arising and ceasing are empty, what worldly people see is perverse. These are like this.
