If it is said that the nature of external objects does not exist in a powerful way, so there is no dependent arising, this statement is temporarily unreasonable. If dreams and the objects they contain are not dependently arisen, then because there is no dependent arising, like a barren woman's son, it will not generate appearances in its own consciousness. Because this (consciousness) arises and appears like in the waking state, relying on the sense faculties such as the eye, it can be determined that consciousness apprehends objects of dependent arising that are different from consciousness. If it is said that in the waking state, the apprehension of external objects by consciousness is also not established, so this is unreasonable. It is not unreasonable, because worldly people apprehend external objects, and the Bhagavan also clearly shows external objects. The Bhagavan said, "Monks, form is the external source of arising, with the four great elements as its cause," and so on. If it is said that worldly people are ignorant, and the Bhagavan's words are also intentional, being of hidden meaning, so there is no fault. The answer is: In any case, for blue and yellow, etc., which can be completely examined by the consciousness of the eye, etc., and which are clearly apprehended, it cannot be said that they do not exist. If blue, etc., are analyzed, because their own nature cannot be apprehended, then the consciousness of blue, etc., is also like the subtle particles of blue, etc., or cannot become the one who apprehends aggregates, so it cannot be established that blue, etc., exist differently from the appearance of consciousness. The answer is: If it is said that what worldly people apprehend also does not exist when analyzed with reason, and thus it is said that it does not exist, then determine in this way that the own characteristics of consciousness, etc., also do not exist. That consciousness is also like an object that is different from the appearance of consciousness. "What exists does not arise because it exists, what does not exist does not arise because it does not exist, because the dharmas do not agree, it is neither existent nor nonexistent, because there is no arising, there is no abiding or ceasing," and so on, the constant dharma as spoken, and "Not non-existent because there are no things, not from self, not from other, therefore,"
