Then (the Buddha) said, "In the three times, it is not reasonable." Thus it is said. If you want a cause that has an effect, then it will become that the previous is the effect and the later is the cause, just like a student and a teacher. If there is no effect, then it will become that the previous is the cause and the later is the effect, just like yogurt and milk. If you say there is and there is not, then in the present, cause and effect will be obtained, because what is being produced has the nature of being and not being. Therefore, having seen that all ways of cause are unreasonable, (the Buddha) said, "In the three times, it is not reasonable." Thus it is said. Or, "In the three times, it is not reasonable." The word "also" here looks backward. Among them, the cause is past, present, and future, so the effect of the three times is also the three times. For each effect, it is impossible to have a cause in the three times. As it is said, explained by reason: "In the three times, it is not reasonable." Thus it is said. Thus, in the twentieth chapter of the Root Wisdom Treatise, it is also said: "The past effect and the past cause, have never existed simultaneously. The unborn and the unborn, have never existed simultaneously. The unborn effect and the unborn cause, have never existed simultaneously. The past and the unborn, have never existed simultaneously. The unborn effect and the born cause, have never existed simultaneously. The unborn and the unceased, have never existed simultaneously." If any dharma is examined in this way, when the cause does not exist, there is no cause, then there is no effect produced by it. Because there is no effect produced, therefore it is established that there is no birth. Here it is said: Because there is a brief indication of the number of causes, it certainly exists. Because there is no brief indication of the number of non-existent things, such as turtle hair. Also, because there is a brief indication of the number of causes. "The efficient cause and the co-existent cause, the similar, the corresponding, and the pervasive, the cause of maturation, there are six kinds of causes." This is from the Abhidharma. The Sutra also says: "One dharma is a special condition, which is proper attention. Cause and condition generate right view, which is the inner self properly attending, and the sound that conforms from others." Three dharmas are multiple causes.
