Regret is remorse. Jealousy and stinginess have already been said to be universally combined. Shamelessness is possessing what kind of dharma that diminishes one's own merits, and with regard to oneself, one does not hesitate to engage in sin. The cause of not guarding against transgressions, whatever dharma is by nature blameworthy, that is called shamelessness. What is called 'lack of shame' is also the same as having no scruples. However, the difference is this: this is with regard to others, not hesitating about various transgressions. Anger is extreme agitation of the mind. Among them, malice is universally harboring a mind of torment towards the object of the mind, while anger is merely universally harboring a mind of torment towards the object of sentient beings and non-sentient beings. Harmfulness is the cause of striking others with fists and palms, etc., without discrimination, due to being angry. Therefore, apart from malice and harmfulness, merely mental disturbance is anger. Concealment is not thoroughly concealing faults; what is blamed by the noble ones is a fault. Thoroughly concealing it is not revealing it to others. This is concealment, that is, using faults to make oneself extremely impure and unclean. Universally binding, because it completely entangles and remains in the mind, it is universally binding, which is precisely the obstacle to entering virtuous dharmas. Among these, dullness, sleep, and lack of shame are causes similar to ignorance. Regret is a cause similar to doubt. Shamelessness, agitation, and stinginess are causes similar to desire. Anger and jealousy are universally aroused by anger. Concealment is a cause similar to desire and ignorance. These ten stains are called near afflictions. Leakage, that is to say, there are three leakages: the leakage of desire, the leakage of existence, and the leakage of ignorance. Among them, apart from ignorance, other afflictions that operate in the desire realm, together with the ten universal entanglements, should be known as the leakage of desire, totaling forty-one things. Subtle afflictions that operate in the form and formless realms, apart from ignorance, fifty-two things are the leakage of existence. Furthermore, what cause leads to the subtle

If all of these are added together and made into the outflows of existence, then neither of these two is indicated in the scriptures, and because it is inwardly directed and is the place of equipoise, it is made into one by the three samenesses of dharma. The fifteen kinds of ignorance of the three realms are the outflows of ignorance. What is the reason why this is established separately? Because it is the root of all afflictions, therefore it is established separately as an outflow. As for what is called a river, there are four rivers: the river of desire, the river of existence, the river of views, and the river of ignorance. Among these, the outflow of desire other than views is the river of desire, which has twenty-nine substances. The outflow of existence that has abandoned views is the river of existence, which has twenty-eight substances. The views of the three realms are the river of views, which has thirty-six substances. The outflow of ignorance is the river of ignorance, which has fifteen substances. These four should be understood as the four bonds. Grasping is four kinds of grasping: grasping at desire, grasping at views, grasping at ethics and vows, and grasping at the doctrine of self. Among these, the bond of desire together with ignorance is grasping at desire, which has thirty-four substances. The bond of views itself, except for holding ethics and vows as supreme, is grasping at views, which has thirty substances. Grasping at ethics and vows has six substances. The bond of existence itself, with ignorance added, is grasping at the doctrine of self, which, together with dullness and agitation, has forty substances. Why are grasping at ethics and vows established separately from views? Because they are enemies of the path and deceive both sides. Because this greatly deceives householders, making them think that they can be born in the higher realms even without eating, and it also greatly deceives renunciates, making them think that they can be purified simply by completely abandoning the objects of desire. Furthermore, for what reason is ignorance mentioned mixed in at the time of grasping, and not separately? Because it is called grasping because it grasps at existence, and ignorance grasps with an unclear nature.
