Nor is it another aspect of action, for if consciousness were empty of the aspect of an object, it would fall into fault. Thus, the aspect that exists in consciousness is established as an external object, and the aspect of the external object is established as consciousness. In this way, by relying on each other, consciousness and what is to be known are established. Furthermore, if consciousness is divided, there are six aggregates of consciousness, namely eye consciousness, ear consciousness, nose consciousness, tongue consciousness, body consciousness, and mind consciousness. What is eye consciousness? It is the distinct knowing of forms by relying on the eye sense. What is ear consciousness? It is the distinct knowing of sounds by relying on the ear sense. What is nose consciousness? It is the distinct knowing of smells by relying on the nose sense. What is tongue consciousness? It is the distinct knowing of tastes by relying on the tongue sense. What is body consciousness? It is the distinct knowing of tangible objects by relying on the body sense. What is mind consciousness? It is the distinct knowing of dharmas by relying on the mind sense. The five aggregates have been explained. Now the twelve sources will be discussed. Among them, the ten realms and the ten sources have already been explained. Now the mind source and the dharma source will be explained. Among those aggregates of consciousness, whichever consciousness has just ceased, it is called mind because it remains as the nature of the basis for the subsequent manifestation of the similar fruit consciousness. The aggregate of feeling, the aggregate of perception, non-revealing form, space, discriminative cessation, and non-discriminative cessation, these seven are called the dharma source. Among them, the three, feeling, etc., and non-revealing form have already been explained. Now the three unconditioned dharmas will be explained. What is space? It is that which allows forms to pass unimpeded and is without form, that is space. What is non-discriminative cessation? It is the cessation that is inseparable from separation. What is discriminative

Then, whatever is ceased is separation. The twelve sources have been explained. Those sources, such as the eye, when distinguished by differences such as the bases, become the eighteen elements, namely the distinctions of the six bases, the six objects, and the six consciousnesses. The brief summary of the aggregates, sources, and elements has been explained. The detailed distinctions should be understood from combining with the Abhidharma. The true meaning of the five aggregates, this treatise which is a brief and excellent explanation, was made by Chandrakirti for the sake of this world without effort. The treatise called 'Treatise on the Five Aggregates' composed by the teacher Chandrakirti is completed. By the command of the glorious Lord Bhikshu Bodhiraja and the decree of the Sangha, at the celestial source temple, it was translated, edited, and finalized in the year of the Pig by the Indian Abbot Dipamkara Shrijnana and the great translator Bhikshu Tsultrim Gyalwa. Treatise on the Five Aggregates, Chandrakirti.
