The so-called "earth" neither goes anywhere nor comes from anywhere. Therefore, it is called "Tathagata." It means that because one has thoroughly understood the nature of suchness as it is, one is called "Tathagata." Or, the Blessed One said that whatever has the nature of arising also inevitably has the nature of ceasing. Because it is shown that old age and death arise from the condition of birth, whatever is born, its fruit is definitely destruction, because birth is for this purpose. Therefore, everything is born for the sake of the fruit, so it is not permanent, it is not self-existent, that is the meaning. Because of this reason, therefore: The wise have not realized such truth, The Tathagata exists, yet is not. The meaning of this verse is the same as before. Another explanation is that the karma that experiences the three feelings is experienced due to the differences in place, time, and physical condition. Without these, one cannot truly experience the result of karma. Therefore, for this purpose, external and internal things arise. Therefore, all things arise for the sake of the fruit, and they do not exist by their own nature, so they are not permanent. Another explanation is that if the nature does not change, it will become permanent, but that is not the case. Therefore, it is not substantial, and all natures are empty, that is the meaning. It is explained that the emptiness of all things is not revealed by the words of other teachers, so it is said: The wise have not realized such truth, The Tathagata exists, yet is not. The logician says that if the opponent admits that it is not born for the sake of the fruit, then it is born, because it is for the sake of the fruit, just like being born for the sake of the fruit. Here, what the opponent imagines, the subtle particles of earth, water, fire, and wind, do not possess arising and ceasing, just like flowers in the sky, because there is no cause, so existence itself is non-existent. For these non-existent things, falsely establishing them as causes, thereby establishing birth, therefore, proving impermanence is also unreasonable, because one's own self has no meaning of fruit.

Because it is already established, if one accepts what is established for others as a reason, it would be too absurd. Since refuting the opponent is done by admitting that things are not the same, it is also unreasonable to assume that permanence is the very meaning of the result. It is also unreasonable to state that this contradicts the inference to another's commitment, since that is only stated when both are established. According to some, since inference cannot cause harm when both are established, inference established for oneself can also cause harm. If one thinks this way, then one becomes unskilled in explaining the meaning, because the wise explain with ease and do not explain with difficulty. Furthermore, since space is also said to be the cause of eye consciousness and the generation of sprouts, and since the six elements are presented as the cause of what is imputed as a person, the very meaning of the result becomes uncertain. If it is said that when a cause transforms, it becomes another cause, and from this principle, space does not have the nature of a cause, then that is not the case. There, just as a seed is the cause of a sprout, whoever does it is the cause. It is manifestly considered that only the producer is the cause, and merely by the object of reason, it is only considered that space is also the cause. If it is not considered in this way, it will not be possible to say that the Sutras and Shastras do not contradict each other. The teacher does not establish impermanence through establishment because he says that things are without self-nature in all ways, because that is the occasion of reality, and like permanence, that will also be refuted later, like: birth and abiding and destruction, do not occur simultaneously, nor do they occur sequentially, then when will they occur? It will be explained like this. It is also said in the treatise: If it is said that impermanence is permanent, such an attachment is wrong, then how is it not wrong to hold that emptiness is impermanent? It is said like this. Furthermore, since things are thoroughly established from the world, it is not necessary to adopt inference at all to establish it.
